Supported Applications

The Omega PP3, PP6, and PP10 Thermocouple Temperature Profile Probes consist of several smaller diameter thermocouples placed inside a single outer sheath. Designed to profile temperature at various points along a single axis, these probes are suited for use in furnaces, reactors, heat exchangers, air ducts, and similar applications.

Mounting with compression fittings permits easy adjustment of the insertion position within the process environment.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series meets or exceeds Special Limits of Error (SLE) and EN 60584-2: Tolerance Class 1. Measurement ranges vary by thermocouple type:

• J: 260°C (500°F)
• E: 300°C (570°F)
• K: 650°C (1200°F)

The maximum operating process temperature is up to 650°C (1200°F). Smaller diameter Profile Probes provide faster response times. The minimum probe diameter depends on the maximum monitoring temperature and the number of sensing points required.

Configuration Details

• Sensing Points: 3, 6, or 10 points per probe.
• Spacing: Space between points varies by model; for example, the PP3-36 series offers spacing of 115 mm (4.5 in) at 450 mm length and 228 mm (9.0 in) at 900 mm length.
• First Point Location: Always located at the probe tip.

Protection Tube Options

The series supports various protection tube outer diameters and male thread sizes, available in Brass or 316 Stainless Steel. Examples include:

• Diameter: Ranges from 1/16" to 1/2".
• Thread Size (Male Th's NPT): Options include 1/16", 1/8", 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2".
• Length: Specific lengths correspond to the tube OD and thread combination, such as 24.6 mm (0.97 in) for a 1/16" OD with 1/16" NPT.

Junction Types & Calibration

Specify calibration type: J, K, T, or E. Select 'G' for grounded individual thermocouple junctions or 'U' for ungrounded individual thermocouple junctions.

Configuration Options

The PPX-XX-(-)-(-)-YY model numbering system defines the specific configuration, where XX indicates sensing points (3, 6, or 10) and YY denotes length in inches (e.g., 18 for 450 mm / 18" or 36 for 900 mm / 36").

Materials & Construction

• Sheath Material: 316 SS.
• Wetted Materials: Includes 316 SS Sheaths, Brass, and Stainless Steel options depending on the protection tube selection.
• Diameter Range: Overall probe diameter ranges from 4.5 mm or 3/16" down to a minimum dependent on temperature and point count (range noted as 1/16" to 1/2").

Connections & Mounting

• Process Connection: Compression Fittings (OMEGALOK®).
• Electrical Termination: Stranded Individual Leads with Miniature Connector Termination.
• Connector Options: M8/M12 Connectors are available. Specific codes include 'M8-S-M' for male straight M8, 'M8-R-M' for male right-angled M8, and corresponding M12 variants (e.g., 'M12-S-M').
• Pressure Seal: Positive Pressure Seal.

Ordering Notes

Profile probes are non-cancellable and non-returnable. For M8 or M12 plug configurations, add the specific suffix to the model number for an additional cost.

Key Product Differences

The series is differentiated primarily by the number of sensing points (PP3, PP6, PP10) and overall length (450 mm / 18" or 900 mm / 36"). The spacing between sensing points changes with both the point count and the total probe length.

• PP3 Series: Features 3 sensing points. At 450 mm (18") length, space is 115 mm (4.5 in); at 900 mm (36"), space is 228 mm (9.0 in).
• PP6 Series: Features 6 sensing points. At 450 mm (18") length, space is 45 mm (1.75 in); at 900 mm (36"), space is 89 mm (3.5 in).
• PP10 Series: Features 10 sensing points. At 450 mm (18") length, space is 32 mm (1.25 in); at 900 mm (36"), space is 51 mm (2.0 in).

Variants also differ by thermocouple type (J, E, K, T) and junction configuration (Grounded 'G' or Ungrounded 'U'). Protection tube material options include Brass models (e.g., BRLK series) and 316 Stainless Steel models (e.g., SSLK series), with specific model numbers tied to the protection tube OD and male thread size.
