Supported Applications

The Omega OMEGAFILM® 'F' Series consists of flat profile thin film platinum RTD elements designed for OEM applications. Manufactured in the USA, these sensors are intended for use worldwide with compatible controllers and instruments. The series provides a rugged solution where response times equivalent to or better than wire wound elements are required.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The F1500-F2000-F4000 series conforms to the IEC60751 Standard with a temperature coefficient of resistance (Alpha) of 0.00385 Ω/Ω/°C between 0 and 100°C. Performance is defined by specific accuracy classes tied to operating ranges:

  • Class A: ±(0.15 + 0.002t) °C for -30 to 300°C
  • Class B: ±(0.30 + 0.005t) °C for -50 to 500°C
  • Class AA (¼ DIN): ±(0.1 + 0.0017t) °C for 0 to 150°C

The series supports nominal resistances of 100, 500, and 1000 Ω. Response times are documented as follows:

  • Water current (v = 0.4 m/s): 0.2 s (t0.5) and 0.4 s (t0.9)
  • Air stream (v = 1 m/s): 3.0 s (t0.5) and 9.0 s (t0.9)

Mechanical ratings include a shock rating of 100 g Acceleration with an 8 ms Half Sine Wave, and vibration resistance of at least 40 g Acceleration at 10 to 2000 Hz.

Electrical Constraints

To limit self-heating error based on measuring conditions, the series specifies maximum current limits:

  • 100 Ω: max 1 mA
  • 500 Ω: 0.7 mA
  • 1000 Ω: max 0.3 mA

Configuration Options

The series is sold in multiples of 100 pieces and offers various sizes, resistances, accuracies, single or dual element configurations, and flat or cylindrical shapes. Wetted materials include a platinum thin film layer on a ceramic base with glass coating over wire bonds pattern; electrical connections utilize Platinum Clad Nickel Wire Leads (10 L x 0.2 mm D).

Dimensions

The series supports the following overall dimensions in millimeters:

  • 2.0 x 2.0 x 0.8 mm
  • 2.0 x 9.0 x 0.8 mm
  • 4.0 x 5.0 x 0.8 mm
  • 1.5 x 4.0 x 0.8 mm

Packaging and Engineering Options

Beyond standard configurations, the series supports Custom Packaging Options and Custom Engineering Department Consultation.

Key Product Differences

The model number guide follows the format F-. For example, F2020-100-B denotes 100 pieces of a 2 x 2 mm element with 100 Ω resistance and Class B tolerance. Variants differ by physical footprint (e.g., F20xx series vs. F4050), nominal resistance value, and accuracy class designation.

Note: The temperature ranges listed correspond to the specific accuracy classes; they are not universal temperature ratings for all sensor configurations in every application context.
