Supported Applications

The Omega PX-WIRE series provides sensor and transducer wire and cable solutions designed for strain gage installations. The product line includes fine-gage insulated wires, multiconductor ribbon cables, shielded cables, and flat uninsulated ribbon leads intended to facilitate connections between strain gages and measurement instrumentation.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series encompasses multiple physical configurations with specific dimensional characteristics documented for selection. Fine-gage insulated wire is constructed with PTFE wall insulation and extruded PFA, noted as non-flammable. Multiconductor ribbon cables are available in conductor counts ranging from 4 to 50 conductors. Shielded cable options provide outer diameters (OD) corresponding to the number of conductors: TX2-100 models have a nominal OD of 3.18 mm (0.125 inch), while TX15-100 models measure 7.11 mm (0.280 inch). The series is manufactured in the USA.

Configuration Options

The PX-WIRE series supports a range of configurations to accommodate different connection requirements:

  • Fine-Gage Insulated Wire: Available in diameters from 0.076 mm (0.003 inch) up to 0.813 mm (0.032 inch). Standard pre-spoiled lengths include 15.2 m (50 ft), 30.5 m (100 ft), and 152 m (500 ft).
  • Multiconductor Ribbon Cable: Offered with conductor counts of 4, 10, 14, 16, 20, 26, or 50 conductors.
  • Multiconductor Shielded Cable: Configurable in 2, 4, 8, and 15-conductor versions with varying outer diameters. Lengths available include 30.5 m (100 ft), 61 m (200 ft), 152 m (500 ft), and 305 m (1000 ft) depending on the model.
  • Ribbon Lead: Flat uninsulated tinned copper wire, specified as 0.30 mm W x 0.10 mm D (0.0118 inch x 0.004 inch), with a tin coating of 2 μm thickness.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between four primary product types based on construction and application:

  • Fine-gage insulated wire is characterized by its small diameter options (0.076 mm to 0.813 mm) and PTFE/PFA insulation.
  • Multiconductor ribbon cables are identified by their conductor count, ranging from RC4-100 (4 conductors) to RC50-100 (50 conductors).
  • Shielded cable models (TX series) differ in both the number of conductors and overall diameter; for example, TX2-100 has 2 conductors with a 3.18 mm OD, whereas TX4-100 features 4 conductors with a 4.83 mm OD.
  • Ribbon lead (RLF series) is distinct as an uninsulated flat wire designed for jumper connections between strain gage solder pads and bondable terminal pads, capable of being soldered in place to form small flex loops.
