Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series BYS and SYS Y-strainers are designed for industrial applications requiring filtration to protect downstream equipment. The stainless steel strainer provides excellent filtration to help prevent damage to valves, meters, etc., from rust and dirt without sacrificing high flow characteristics.

These units handle gases, steam, and liquids compatible with the specified wetted materials in a versatile Y configuration available across a wide range of sizes.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within a temperature limit of -10 to 250°F (-23 to 121°C). End connections are Female NPT. Pressure limits vary by model and material family, as detailed in the specification grid: BYS models range from 400 psi (27.6 bar) for sizes up to 3/4" down to 300 psi (20.7 bar) for 1", 1-1/4", 1-1/2", and 2" sizes; SYS models maintain a maximum pressure of 800 psi (55.2 bar) across all listed pipe sizes from 1/4" to 2".

Wetted Materials

• BYS Series: Valve body: Cast brass; Cap and plug: Brass; Screen: SS (Stainless Steel); Seal: PTFE.
• SYS Series: Valve body and cap: Cast 316 SS (CF8M); Plug and screen: 316 SS; Seal: PTFE.

Configuration Options

The series is offered in two primary material configurations to suit different service requirements:

• BYS (Brass): High-quality brass construction for general industrial use, featuring a cast brass body and cap/plug with an SS screen.
• SYS (Stainless Steel): Corrosion-resistant 316 Stainless Steel (CF8M) construction for the valve body, cap, plug, and screen, providing enhanced durability in demanding environments.

Pipe sizes are available from 1/4" through 2", with specific dimensional profiles defined by dimension A and B for each NPT size. The seal is constructed of PTFE to ensure long service life across the series envelope.

Key Product Differences

The Series BYS & SYS differ primarily in material composition and pressure ratings:

• BYS Models (BYS-00 through BYS-07): Constructed with cast brass bodies. Maximum pressure is 400 psi (27.6 bar) for pipe sizes 1/4" to 3/4", and 300 psi (20.7 bar) for pipe sizes 1" to 2".
• SYS Models (SYS-00 through SYS-07): Constructed with Cast 316 SS (CF8M). Maximum pressure is consistently rated at 800 psi (55.2 bar) for all pipe sizes from 1/4" to 2".
