Supported Applications

The Weiss Series 716 Vapor Actuated Panel Mount Thermometers are designed for temperature monitoring in hot and chilled water pipeline systems, tanks, and air ducts. The series includes NSF listed remote reading dial thermometers suitable for applications requiring specific sanitary certifications.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series 716 offers a measurement accuracy of one scale division throughout the range. Available temperature ranges include -40-0-60°F, 0-150°F, 30-300°F, -20-0-100°F, 0-180°F, 100-350°F, -40-0-110°F, 40-240°F, and 60-260°F. Dual-scale options are available in ranges such as 40-0-60 F&C, 40-0-110 F&C, 40-240 F&C, 100-220 F&C, and 0-180 F&C.

For probe insertion, the standard dimension is 2 5/8" below the mounting thread. The series supports various system lengths depending on bulb selection, with maximums ranging from 5 feet to 99 feet for specific thermal systems.

Vapor Actuated Dial Thermometers (Series VTVA & VTR)

While distinct in model numbering, the data sheet details shared coding structures and capabilities often associated with this product family. These include:

  • Dial Sizes: 1-1/2", 2", 2-1/2", 3-1/2" (Series 716 specific), and 4-1/2".
  • Housing Materials: Stainless steel cases are standard for the Series 716 panel mount configurations. Other variants in the family utilize brass or aluminum depending on the connection type.

Series 716 Specific Configurations

The Series 716 is specifically configured with the following case types and connections:

  • Case Types (Code II): Front Flange Flush Mount, U-Clamp Flush Mount, Back Flange Surface Mount, Front Flange Semi-Flush Mount, U-Clamp Semi-Flush Mount.
  • Case Connections (Code III): Back Connection (Standard) or Lower Connection.
  • Window Options (Code IV): Molded one-piece Lexan; Stainless Steel Ring & Glass; Chrome Plated Brass, Glass; Crimped Ring S.S., Plastic or Glass - Waterproof; Threaded one-piece Lexan.

Configuration Options

The series supports extensive configuration across thermal systems, bulb selections, and process connections to accommodate diverse installation requirements.

Thermal Systems (Code V)

  • Bulb Types: Plain Bulb or Union Bulb.
  • Materials: Copper or 316 S.S. for both bulb and capillary materials depending on the system code.
  • Capillary Protection: Options include None, Cu. Braid, Intlock Armor*, or standard protection at the indicating head with specific spring configurations at the bulb end for systems No. 5-7.

Bulb Selections (Code VI)

Bulb dimensions and maximum system lengths vary by selection code:

  • Union Bulbs (Systems 4–9): Diameter 7/16" with lengths ranging from 1.87" to 9.4".
  • Plain Bulbs (Systems 1–3): Diameters of 3/8" or 5/16" with lengths up to 9.4".
  • Averaging Bulb: Available as a .13 dia copper averaging bulb, approx 180" long (Code X).

Process Connections & Materials

The series offers multiple fitting types and wetted materials to suit different media interfaces.

  • Fittings: Union Connection (1/2" NPT, 3/4" NPT), Separable Socket (1/2" NPT, 3/4" NPT), Air Duct Flange (Aluminum only), and Plain bulb with no fitting.
  • Lag Extensions: Available for Separable Sockets on No. 3 Bulb configurations.
  • Materials: Brass, 304 Stainless Steel, 316 Stainless Steel, Aluminum (Air Duct Flange only), and Copper/316 S.S. wetted parts depending on the thermal system selected.

Key Product Differences

The Series 716 distinguishes itself through specific case mounting styles tailored for panel integration, including Front Flange Flush Mount (Code F), U-Clamp Flush Mount (Code U), and Semi-Flush options. Unlike the broader family which includes remote mount adjustable brackets or vari-angle direct mounts in other series codes, the Series 716 focuses on flush and semi-flush surface mounting configurations.

Model numbering for NSF listed variants follows a specific pattern indicating dial size (e.g., 20 for 2", 45 for 4-1/2"), connection style (BB for Back Flange, FB for Front Flange, HL for Hanging Bracket Lower Connect, UB for U Clamp Back Connect), and range. For example, the catalog number 20FB-060 denotes a 2" dial with a front flange back connect in the 40-0-60 F&C range.

System length is specified using two digits for feet or inches (e.g., 05, 10, 99) followed by FT or IN. Tin plating is available as an option for specific thermal systems upon request.
