Supported Applications

The Omega SRM/E self-regulating heating cable series provides heat tracing for process temperature maintenance and freeze protection. Documented applications include pipes, valves, tanks, and similar industrial equipment.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The SRM/E series is designed for operation with a maximum exposure temperature of 420°F (215°C), allowing steam cleaning of process equipment using up to 300 PSIG steam. The cable maintains temperatures up to 302°F (150°C). It operates on power supplies rated at 120 and 208-277 Volts.

Performance ratings vary by model output and voltage:

  • Cable Ratings @ 50°F: Output ranges from 3 W/Ft. to 20 W/Ft., with maximum circuit lengths varying from 160 Ft. (SRM/E 20 -1C) to 780 Ft. (SRM/E 3 -2C).
  • Voltage Options: Models are available for nominal voltages of 120 Vac and 240 Vac, with specific output wattage adjustments provided for alternate voltages including 208 Volts, 220 Volts, and 277 Volts.

Configuration Options

The series is constructed of industrial grade 14 AWG buss wire with a metal braid. The sheath material is specified as High Temperature Fluoropolymer Jacket. Optional overjacketing configurations are available to ensure operating integrity in hostile environments.

Model Number Configuration

The model number guide follows the format: SRM/E - <Output (watts)> - <Voltage> - <Braid> - <Overcoat Options>. Example configurations include:

  • SRM/E 3-1 C: 3 W/Ft. @ 50°F, 120 Vac.
  • SRM/E 8-2 CT: 8 W/Ft. @ 50°F, 240 Vac with overcoat options.
  • SRM/E 20-1 C: 20 W/Ft. @ 50°F, 120 Vac.

Approvals and Certifications

The series carries the following certifications:

  • UL Listed
  • CSA Certified
  • FM Approved: For hazardous (classified) areas when used with Chromalox accessories.
  • UL Listed for fire protection system piping.

The cable is UL Listed and CSA Certified for ordinary areas. FM approval applies to hazardous locations contingent on the use of specific accessories.

Accessories

Available options include:

  • Thermostats: RTAS (DL Series air-sensing with Microswitch®) and RTBC (DL Series pipewall-sensing with Microswitch®).
  • Power Connections: RTPC (power connection set kit), RTST (splice and tee set kit), and RTES (end seal kit).
  • Mechanical Hardware: Pipe Straps (PS-1, PS-3, PS-10) to affix thermostats and splice kits.
  • Tapes: Fiberglass Tape (FT-2) for cable attachment; Aluminum Tape (AT-1) to aid heat transfer along the circuit length.
  • Safety Labels: Caution Labels (CL-1), "Electrical Heat Tracing" labels, 5 per package.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the SRM/E series differ primarily by output wattage density and nominal voltage. The ordering information distinguishes between models ending in "C" (standard) and "CT" (with overcoat options). Output ratings at 50°F range from 3 W/Ft. to 20 W/Ft., with corresponding maximum circuit lengths decreasing as output increases for a given voltage.

Alternate voltage performance is documented separately, showing increased wattage per foot when operating the cable on higher voltages (e.g., SRM/E 15 at 277 Volts yields 18.45 W/Ft.). Specific PCNs are assigned to each configuration for ordering purposes.
