Supported Applications
The Omega KHRA, KHLVA, and KHA series comprises self-adhesive polyimide flexible heaters designed for surface heating applications. These units feature an etched foil element encapsulated in polyimide film, offering high resistance to chemicals and excellent outgassing properties suitable for high vacuum environments.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within a temperature range of -57 to 150°C (-70 to 302°F) for heaters without pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA). For units equipped with optional PSA, the operating temperature is limited to -40 to 149°C (-40 to 300°F).
Performance specifications include:
- Voltage Ratings: KHA and KHRA series operate at 115 Volts or 230 Volts; the KHLVA series operates at 28 Volts.
- Watt Density: Available in ratings of 2.5, 5, or 10 W/in².
- Dielectric Strength: Rated at 1250 Vac.
- Physical Limits: Minimum bending radius is 0.032"; overall heater thickness is 0.010", increasing to a maximum of 0.060" at the lead wire exit.
Safety constraints require that heaters must be attached to an appropriate heat sink and should not be mounted free-standing in air. Heaters must not be immersed in liquids, cut, punched, or overlapped during installation.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable options across shape, voltage, watt density, size, and mounting method to accommodate specific engineering requirements.
Housing and Shape Configurations
- KHA Series: Rectangular units available in 115 or 230 Volts. Lead wires exit centrally from the width side.
- KHLVA Series: Rectangular units rated for 28 Volts, with lead wire exits configured similarly to KHA models.
- KHRA Series: Round units available in 115 or 230 Volts. Lead wires exit radially from the center.
Mounting and Adhesive Options
- Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (PSA): Optional adhesive backing is available for direct surface mounting, indicated by a "-P" suffix in model numbers. Note that PSA inclusion reduces the maximum operating temperature to 149°C (300°F).
- Mechanical Mounting: Heaters without PSA can be mechanically clamped or epoxy mounted.
Electrical Connections and Materials
- Lead Wires: Units include 12" of PTFE insulated UL 1180 lead wire. Wire gauge varies with heater wattage, and a silicone patch is added for strain relief.
- Construction Materials: The heating element consists of an Inconel etched circuit (0.001" thickness) encapsulated between two layers of 0.002" polyimide film.
Key Product Differences
The primary distinctions within the series are defined by model prefix, voltage rating, and geometric configuration:
- KHA vs. KHLVA Voltage: While both share a rectangular form factor, KHA models are designed for 115 or 230 Volts, whereas KHLVA models are specifically rated for 28 Volts.
- KHRA Geometry: The KHRA series is the only configuration in this bundle offered with round dimensions and radial lead wire exits.
- Suffix Notation: Model numbers ending in "-P" denote units equipped with optional pressure-sensitive adhesive. Variants without this suffix are supplied as bare heaters intended for mechanical clamping or epoxy mounting.
