Supported Applications

The Omega KU-VKA Series rotary disconnect switches are designed for general purpose electrical disconnects or as manual motor disconnect switches. These non-fused devices provide an economical solution for applications requiring simple power on-off switching or the starting and stopping of motors. The series does not replace the need for fuses or circuit breakers.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The KU-VKA Series supports general use ratings from 16A to 150A at a maximum voltage of 600 Vac. Models are rated with an interrupting capacity of 10 kA when used with a back-up fuse and feature a short circuit withstand rating of 10kA @ 600V with the specified maximum fuse size.

Motor Full Load Ampere (FLA) ratings vary by model and voltage. For example, at 480 Vac, AU-KU models support motor FLAs from 14A to 34A, while AU-VKA models are rated for higher currents depending on the specific amperage class. At 600 Vac, AU-KU models cover 9A to 27A, and AU-VKA models range from 47A to 83A.

Terminal connections accept copper conductors only at 75°C. Terminal sizes vary by model: AU-KU series terminals accommodate 14-8 AWG or 12-4 AWG depending on the current rating, while AU-VKA models support 4-1/0 AWG. Torque specifications are 16 lb/inch for AU-KU models and 50 lb/inch for AU-VKA models.

Configuration Options

The series is available in two primary model families: AU-KU for lower current applications and AU-VKA for higher currents. Both are 3-pole disconnect switches.

Housing & Mounting Options

• DIN Rail: Standard mounting configuration (e.g., -N suffix).
• Panel Mounting Kits: Available with black or yellow/red handles for both AU-KU and AU-VKA series.
• Extended Handles & Door Interlocks: Options include defeatable NEMA 4X (IP66) handles, non-defeatable NEMA 4X (IP67) handles that lose the rating when opened, and door interlock shafts in lengths of 100 mm, 200 mm, or 300 mm.

Dimensions & Weight

• AU-KU Models: 74 H x 49.5 W x 73 mm D (2.91 x 1.95 x 2.87"); weight ranges from 0.17 Kg to 0.20 Kg.
• AU-VKA Models: 82 H x 79 W x 82 mm D (3.23 x 3.11 x 3.23"); weight is 0.48 Kg (1.1 lbs).

Auxiliary Switches & Accessories

Snap-on auxiliary contacts are available for both series:

• 1 N.O./1 N.C.: AU-KU1V, AU-VKA1V
• 2 N.O./2 N.C.: AU-KU2V, AU-VKA2V

Fuse holders for 30 A disconnects are offered in Class CC (AU-KV10X38CC) and 10 x 38 midget fuse configurations (AU-KV10X38).

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between the AU-KU family, covering current ratings of 16A, 25A, 40A, and 60A, and the AU-VKA family, which covers 80A, 100A, 125A, and 150A. The physical dimensions differ significantly between these two families to accommodate their respective current capacities.

Handle configurations vary by application need: direct handles (black or yellow/red) mount directly on the switch for DIN rail installations, while extended handle kits allow for panel mounting with lockout provisions for ¼" padlocks. Specific door interlock shafts are required when using extended handles to secure equipment doors.

Fuse compatibility is model-dependent; AU-KU models support K5 (up to 60A), RK5, RK1, and J class fuses up to specific amperages per the specification table. AU-VKA models require higher capacity fuse classes such as K5 (150A) or J (200A).
