Supported Applications

The Omega E57 Premium+ Series inductive proximity sensors are engineered for robust industrial environments requiring high performance and durability. The series is designed for applications involving intense shock, vibration, high temperature, and pressure washdown conditions. These sensors feature a rugged stainless steel body with impact-absorbing potting compound to withstand demanding operational stresses.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The E57 Series operates within an ambient temperature range of -25 to 70°C (-13 to 158°F). The sensors carry enclosure ratings of NEMA 4, 4X, 6, 6P, 12 and 13 (IP67), ensuring protection against water ingress and dust. Mechanical resilience is specified with a shock rating of 30 g, 11 mS per IEC 68-2-76 and vibration resistance from 10 to 55 Hz at 1 mm amplitude.

Performance metrics include repeat accuracy of <1% sensing distance for shielded models and <3% for unshielded and extended range configurations. Switching hysteresis is maintained below 15% of the rated sensing distance, with a time delay before availability of less than 200 mS.

Configuration Options

The series offers extensive configuration options across diameters, output types, and connection methods to suit specific installation requirements.

  • Diameters: Available in 12 mm, 18 mm, and 30 mm tubular sizes.
  • Sensing Range (SN): Configurable from 2 mm (0.08 in) to 15 mm (0.6 in), depending on diameter and shielding type.
  • Shielding: Options include shielded models for flush mounting or unshielded models with extended sensing ranges requiring specific mounting clearances.
  • Output Types: Includes 2-wire AC/DC, 3-wire DC (NPN and PNP), and NO Output configurations.
  • Power Supply: Supports 20 to 240 Vac/Vdc for AC/DC models and 6 to 48 Vdc for DC-only variants. Maximum load current reaches up to 500 mA @ 6 to 30 Vdc or 250 mA @ 25°C (AC).
  • Electrical Connections: Standard configurations include a 2 m (6') cable, 3-pin micro AC connector, and 4-pin micro DC connector.

Housing materials consist of stainless steel bodies with polycarbonate end bells and Ryton® front ends. A 360° viewable LED output indicator is included for status monitoring.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the E57 Series are distinguished by their sensing range, shielding type, and electrical interface. Shielded models typically offer standard ranges (e.g., 2 mm to 10 mm) suitable for flush mounting with zero clearance requirements on one side. Unshielded variants provide extended sensing distances (up to 15 mm) but require specific non-metallic clearances defined as 0.5 d or 0.5 Sn depending on the model.

Electrical variations separate AC/DC models, which operate from 24 to 240 Vac/Vdc and feature a switching frequency of 60 Hz, from DC-only models operating at 6 to 48 Vdc with higher switching frequencies (up to 1000 Hz for 12 mm sensors). Connection options vary between fixed cable lengths and micro-connector interfaces; longer cables are available by appending the desired length in meters to the model number.

Mounting accessories include brackets E57KM12, E57KM18, and E57KM30 for tubular sensors of corresponding diameters, as well as an adjustable ball swivel bracket (E58KAM18B) for 18 mm units.
