Supported Applications

The Omega TX86 is a programmable, head-mount temperature transmitter designed for universal input signal conditioning. It converts signals from thermocouples, RTDs (Resistance Temperature Detectors), millivolts, volts, potentiometers, and ohms into linearized 4-20 mA DC loop current outputs. The series supports integration with DCS, PLC, PC, SCADA systems, or recorders for industrial process monitoring.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The TX86 operates within an ambient temperature range of -20 to 70°C (-4 to 158°F) and a relative humidity of 20 to 90%, non-condensing. The unit features galvanic isolation with a rating of 1000V RMS continuous between input and output circuits.

Performance specifications include an accuracy of ± 2% of full scale input, a resolution of 2 µA, and a response time of 1 second with dampening off. Long-term stability is rated at ± 0.15%/year, with a temperature coefficient of ± 0.01%/°C (5 to 50°C). The device includes self-diagnostic capabilities for sensor open-circuit and short-circuit detection.

Configuration Options

The TX86 series supports multiple input types with specific measured ranges:

  • Thermocouples: K (-100 to 1372 °C), J, T, E, R, N, S, B (400 to 1800 °C).
  • RTDs: Pt100, Pt500, Pt1000 (-200 to 850/200 °C), Ni120, Cu10.
  • Other Inputs: Resistance (0 to 2000 Ω), Potentiometer (0 to 2000 Ω), mV (-5 to 60).

The transmitter is configured via three push-buttons on the front panel and features a 4-digit, 7-segment bright LED display. It supports output configurations of 4-20 mA or 20-4 mA (reverse action) with a maximum load resistance calculated as 50 x (Vsupply - 12V) Ω. An optional solid-state relay alarm output is available with a 30 mA maximum rating.

Power requirements are met by a loop-powered supply of 12 to 30 Vdc, which includes reverse polarity protection up to 60 Vdc. The housing material is plastic (polycarbonate) with overall dimensions of 62 mm Dia x 42 mm H (2.44 x 1.65 in).

Key Product Differences

The TX86 model number guide follows the format: TX86 - <Input Type> - <Configuration> - <Output> - <Power Supply>. While the primary unit is a 2-wire loop-powered transmitter, optional power supplies are available for standalone or specific installation needs:

  • PSR-24S: Regulated power supply, 24 Vdc, 400 mA, screw terminal.
  • PSR-24L: Regulated power supply, 24 Vdc, 400 mA, UL, stripped leads.
  • PSR-24L-230: Regulated power supply, 24 Vdc, 400 mA, stripped leads, 230 Vac input, CE.
  • PSU-93: Unregulated power supply, 16 to 23 Vdc, 300 mA max, screw terminal.
