Supported Applications

The Omega Series 7000 Self-Powered Analog Pyrometers are high-performance readout instruments designed for temperature measurement using thermocouple inputs. These meters feature a taut band mechanism and parallax mirror displays to provide accurate readings in industrial process monitoring applications.

Each unit is calibrated for specific ANSI Type T, J, K, E, R, or S thermocouples with defined external resistance requirements. The series supports automatic bimetal cold-junction compensation to account for ambient temperature changes at the connection point.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series 7000 pyrometers deliver an accuracy of ±2% across their specified ranges, with repeatability better than <¼%. The instruments are self-powered and require no external power supply for operation. Standard models are calibrated for a total external thermocouple resistance of 10 Ω; units include an adjustable 10 Ω resistor bobbin to compensate for lower circuit resistances.

Performance under environmental stress meets or exceeds the following standards:

  • Shock, vibration, humidity, and temperature: ANSI C39.1 - 1981
  • Safety (dielectric test, leakage, hazards): ANSI C39.5 - 1974

The rated circuit-to-ground voltage is 80 Vrms (1100 peak). Current sensitivity is approximately 4 Ω/mV (250 mA).

Temperature Ranges by Thermocouple Type

The series offers a wide selection of temperature ranges depending on the thermocouple type and model configuration:

  • Type T: -130 to 40 °C (-200 to 100 °F) through -60 to 100 °C (-75 to 225 °F)
  • Type J: -100 to 120 °C (-150 to 250 °F) up to 0 to 500 °C (0 to 1000 °F)
  • Type K: -20 to 540 °C (0 to 1000 °F) through 0 to 1370 °C (0 to 2500 °F)
  • Type E: -60 to 110 °C (-75 to 225 °F) up to 0 to 800 °C (0 to 1500 °F)
  • Type R and S: 0 to 1650 °C (0 to 3000 °F)

Configuration Options

The Series 7000 is available in three primary model families distinguished by physical dimensions and mounting options. All models feature phenolic fronts, glass windows, mirrored scales with knife-edge pointers, and are manufactured in the USA.

  • Model 7035: Compact front-panel mount design (approx. 3.04" max width).
  • Model 7045: Mid-size unit with bezel mounting capability; includes optional Bezel Mounting Kit (7045-BMK) and Bench Stand (S-45).
  • Model 7055: Largest form factor supporting high-range thermocouples including Type S; compatible with Bezel Mounting Kit (7055-BMK) and Bench Stand (S-55).

Thermocouple connections are made via terminals on the rear of the unit, with positive leads connected to the left terminal when viewed from the back. The series supports various thermocouple materials including Cu/C (Type T), I/C (Type J), C/A (CHROMEGA® vs ALOMEGA®, Type K), Ch/C (CHROMEGA® vs constantan, Type E), Pt/Pt 13% Rh (Type R), and Pt/Pt 10% Rh (Type S).

Key Product Differences

Variants within the Series 7000 are differentiated by model number prefix (7035, 7045, or 7055) indicating physical size and mounting style, followed by a thermocouple type code (T, J, K, E, R, S), and concluding with a range code corresponding to the maximum temperature in Fahrenheit. For example, model 7035-J-250 indicates a Type J sensor calibrated for 0 to 120 °C (-150 to 250 °F) or similar ranges depending on specific calibration.

The series includes an OMEGACARE™ extended warranty program (OCV-3), which extends the standard one-year warranty to a total of four years. Special instruments may vary from standard tolerance limits and are available upon request.
