Supported Applications
The Omega KFH Series consists of pre-wired strain gages designed for strain measurement. These sensors feature a rugged polyimide carrier and full encapsulation to provide environmental protection at the measuring point, eliminating the need for soldering during installation.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within an ambient temperature range of -10 to 155 °C (-14 to 320 °F) for both static and dynamic measurements. Storage conditions are specified as -10 to 120 °C (-14 to 248 °F). Performance characteristics include a gage factor tolerance of ±1% for grid lengths of 0.6 mm and 1.5 mm, and ±1.5% for other grid lengths. Mechanical hysteresis is documented as 1 μm/m (microstrain) at the 1st load cycle with adhesive SG496, improving to 0.5 μm/m (microstrain) at the 3rd load cycle.
Configuration Options
The KFH series is available in linear patterns as well as planar X-Y and planar 0°/45°/90° rosette configurations. Models are compensated for steel (ST) and offered with nominal resistances of 120 Ω or 350 Ω.
- Grid Lengths: Linear gages range from 0.3 mm to 20 mm; planar patterns range from 0.6 mm to 6 mm.
- Electrical Connections: Pre-wired with PTFE wire (Ø - 0.051 mm², approximately 50 mm long) connected via solder sleeves to AWG 28 ribbon cables (PVC insulated). Configurations include two or three leads.
- Lead Lengths: Options include two 1 m leads and three 3 m leads.
- Materials: The measuring grid is constructed of Constantan, with a polyimide carrier thickness of μm (microinch) 45 ± 10 (1.772 ± 394).
Bonding materials supported by the series include cold cure adhesives SG496 and SG401, as well as heat cure adhesive kit TT300.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the KFH-Linear family differ primarily by grid length, nominal resistance, lead configuration, and gage pattern. The model number structure follows the format KFH-<GRID_LENGTH>-<RESISTANCE>-<PATTERN>-<LEAD_TYPE>. For example, KFH-1.5-120-C1-11L1M2S denotes a linear 1.5 mm grid with 120 Ω resistance and two 1 m leads, while KFH-3-350-C1-11L3M3S indicates a linear 3 mm grid with 350 Ω resistance and three 3 m leads.
Maximum permitted bridge energizing voltage (VRMS) varies by model; for instance, the 0.3 mm linear gage lists 4.5 VRMS, while larger grids such as the 20 mm linear pattern list up to 7 VRMS depending on resistance and configuration.
