Product Overview
- Media Compatibility Dry bulk solids / powders, Dry Bulk Solids, Dry Powder, Flour, Grain, Powders, Sand
- Series ID Ultra-Mag
- Set Point Adjustment Internal Screw
Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series E, G, & P Ultra-Mag™ Explosion-Proof Level Switches are designed to sense the presence of powder and bulk solids in bins, vessels, and hoppers. The series provides level indication by detecting pressure applied by the material to a sensing diaphragm, utilizing magnetic linkage to isolate the electrical compartment from the controlled product.
Documented applications include mining, food and beverage processing, silos, and hopper systems handling compatible powders or bulk solids such as:
- Abrasive materials: Aggregate, Ash (dry), Cement (klinker/portland), Coal, Fly ash
- Foods & Grains: Baking powder/soda, Barley, Beans, Corn, Flour, Rice, Soybeans, Sugar beets/refined sugar, Wheat
- Chemicals & Resins: Alumina, Carbon black, PVC (powder/resin), Polyethylene/Polypropylene powders and resins, Talcum powder
- Other Solids: Bark, Bentonite, Clay, Diatomaceous earth, Drill mud, Glass batch, Kaolin clay, Lime, Perlite, Sand, Sawdust, Sludge (sewage), Wood chips/dust
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Ultra-Mag series operates under a pressure limit of 60 psig (4.14 bar). Temperature limits depend on the selected diaphragm material:
- Standard switch: -40 to 185°F (-40 to 85°C)
- High temperature switch: -40 to 350°F (-40 to 176°C)
The switches feature a sealed enclosure rated as general purpose, weatherproof, or explosion-proof. Explosion-proof models carry UL Listing for Class I, Div I and II, Groups C and D; and Class II, Div I and II, Groups E, F, and G. The unit weight is 7 lb (3.18 kg). Electrical connections utilize 18 gage solid core wire, 600 V TEW 105°C, style 1015, epoxy sealed at the conduit entrance with a standard length of 12" (304.8 mm).
Configuration Options
The series supports multiple mounting configurations and material options to accommodate specific installation requirements:
- Mounting Types: Flange mount or suspension depending on the model.
- Housing Materials: Aluminum, anodized aluminum, epoxy-coated aluminum, or 304 SS (for flanged models).
- Process Connections: Standard for flanged models is an 8-3/8" diameter bolt hole circle. Suspension kits and flange adaptor rings are available as options.
- Electrical Ratings & Switch Types:
- Standard: SPDT, 15 A @ 125, 250 VAC
- High temp: SPDT, 5 A @ 125, 250 VAC; 24 VDC
- High vibration: SPDT, 15 A @ 125, 250 VAC
- Gold contacts: SPDT, 1 A @ 125 VAC, 1/2 A @ 24 VDC
Diaphragm Materials: Selection is based on product compatibility and temperature. Available materials include Urethane (various thicknesses), Buna-N (black or white food grade), PTFE/glass on silicone rubber, Silicone rubber (gray/red/white variants), EPDM, Polyester filter fabric, and Polyester nitex.
Key Product Differences
The series is differentiated by certification level, diaphragm type, mounting style, housing finish, and switch rating:
- Certification Prefixes: Models with the "EX" prefix are explosion-proof (UL Class I/II). General purpose units do not require this prefix.
- Sensing Series: The "G" series utilizes an elastomeric diaphragm requiring venting. The "P" series uses a breathable fabric diaphragm that does not require venting.
- Mounting Codes: Model numbers indicate mounting via the letter 'S' for suspended or 'F'/'T' for flanged (aluminum standard or 304 SS).
- Housing Finishes: Designated by codes D (Aluminum), A (Anodized Aluminum), and E (Epoxy Coated Aluminum).
