Supported Applications
The Omega SA1-RTD series consists of self-adhesive polyimide fast response RTD surface sensors designed for critical temperature monitoring. The product overview identifies specific use cases including monitoring chip, heat sink, and environmental temperatures in electronic devices; measuring piping and ducting temperatures; and assessing motor or transformer core temperatures.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series features a thin-film platinum RTD element with a base resistance of 100 Ohms at 0°C, conforming to IEC 60751 (DIN Platinum RTD) standards. The sensor provides Class A accuracy tolerances defined as ±0.15+0.002t (where t=temperature in °C). Performance specifications include a continuous temperature rating of -73°C to 260°C (-100°F to 500°F), with short-term capability up to 290°C when cemented into place.
Response time is documented as less than 0.9 s (63% response time in water immersion) and less than 2 s on a hot plate. The sensing element measures 2 x 2 x 0.8 mm, mounted on a carrier measuring 25 x 19 mm.
Configuration Options
The SA1-RTD series is configurable across wire configurations, lead lengths, and cold-end terminations to accommodate specific installation needs.
- Wire Configuration: Available in 3-wire or 4-wire styles. The 4-wire configuration supports higher accuracy applications by eliminating lead resistance errors.
- Lead Lengths: Standard lengths include 1 m (40"), 2 m (80"), and 3 m (120"). Custom lead wire lengths are available at additional cost.
- Cold End Termination: Options include stripped leads with specific insulation/bare configurations, "MTP" style miniature flat 3-pin connectors, or TA4F connectors. For the TA4F connector on 4-wire models, pins 1 and 2 are common, while pins 3 and 4 are common.
- Mounting: The sensor features a silicone-based self-adhesive backing rated to 260°C (500°F). For higher temperatures or permanent mounting, OMEGABOND® cements are available: OB-100-16 (fast-setting epoxy, max 130°C), OB-200-16 (high temperature epoxy, max 260°C), and OB-700 powder cement (max 871°C).
- Protection: A stainless steel overbraid option is available by adding "-SB" to the model number for applications involving electrical noise or routing around sharp objects.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the series are distinguished primarily by wire count, lead length, and connector type. The 3-wire models (e.g., SA1-RTD-MTP) utilize stripped leads or MTP connectors across three standard lengths. The 4-wire models (e.g., SA1-RTD-4W-TA4F) offer the same length options but include TA4F connector variants specifically for 4-wire configurations.
Model number construction follows the pattern: SA1-RTD - <Style> - <Length> - <Cold End Termination>. For example, a 3-wire sensor with an MTP connector and 2 m length is designated as SA1-RTD-MTP (with the specific length code implied or explicit in ordering). The series supports both stripped lead terminations for direct wiring and pre-installed connectors to streamline integration.
