Supported Applications
The Omega BT-000 and BT-090 series comprises low-cost bayonet-style thermocouple probes designed for temperature measurement in pipe applications. These sensors feature a spring-loaded mechanism that allows insertion into drilled holes without threading, making them suitable for temporary or permanent installations where quick access is required. The product overview identifies the series as offering standard configurations for fast delivery with flexible stainless steel armor cable.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The probes are constructed from 304 Stainless Steel and utilize a hollow tube design containing glass braid insulated, 20 gage solid thermocouple wire. The series supports service temperatures up to 480°C (900°F), with the exception of Type T Thermocouples which have different limits not specified in this bundle. Standard configurations include a flexible cable diameter of 7 mm (0.275") and an insertion length of 1.5 m (60"). The junction is grounded by default, though ungrounded options are available via specific model suffixes.
Key Specifications
- Service Temperature: Up to 480°C (900°F) except for Type T Thermocouple
- Cable Diameter: 7 mm (0.275") stainless steel armor cable
- Standard Insertion Length: 1.5 m (60")
- Junction Type: Grounded (Ungrounded available as option)
- Wire Construction: Glass braid insulated, 20 gage solid thermocouple wire; stranded wire available as an option
Configuration Options
The series offers extensive configurability across sensor types, probe geometries, termination styles, and dimensional parameters. The model number structure follows the format: BT-000-<TYPE>-<COLD END TERMINATION>-<DIMENSION>-<ANSI COLOR CODE>>.
Thermocouple Types
The series supports Type J, K, T, and E thermocouples.
Probe Geometry & Mounting
- Straight Style (BT-000): Standard straight probe configuration with bayonet-type spring-loaded process connection.
- 90° Bend Style (BT-090): Angled probe design for applications requiring offset insertion. Dimension A is available as 57.2 mm (2¼") or 89 mm (3½").
- Pipe Clamp Adaptors: Available separately to secure the bayonet probes in pipe holes ranging from 6 to 127 mm (¼" to 5"). Note: Choose "A" thermocouple dimension of 57 mm (2.25") for all bayonet type thermocouples used with pipe clamp adaptors.
Termination & Output Options
- Cold End Termination: Style 1 features Spade Lugs; Style 2 utilizes a Standard Size Connector. Dual termination options are available on specific models (indicated by "-DUAL" suffix).
- Junction Configuration: Grounded is standard. Ungrounded configurations are identified by the "-UNGROUNDED" or "-UNG" suffix.
Dimensional Customization
The series supports a wide variety of immersion lengths beyond the 1.5 m (60") standard. Longer lengths are available at an additional cost per inch, with the model number dimension field updated to reflect the desired length in inches.
Key Product Differences
Variants within this series differ primarily by thermocouple type, probe angle, and termination style. The BT-000 prefix denotes straight probes, while the BT-090 prefix indicates 90° bend probes. Model numbers explicitly encode the ANSI color code for identification.
Model Number Structure
The general format is BT-000-<TYPE>-<COLD END TERMINATION>-<DIMENSION>-<ANSI COLOR CODE>. For example, a Type K probe with Style 2 termination and specific dimensions would follow this pattern. The "A" dimension (probe length) is selectable as either 57.2 mm (2¼") or 89 mm (3½").
Special Options & Notes
- Stranded Wire: Available as an option to the standard solid wire construction.
- Dual Termination: Specific SKUs include a "-DUAL" suffix indicating dual termination capability.
- Pipe Clamp Adaptors (BTC/BTA): Separate adaptors are required for installation in pipes; thermocouples are supplied without BTA adaptors. BTC models correspond to pipe diameters from ½" to 5¼", while BTA thread sizes include ⅛-27 NPT and ⅜-24.
