Supported Applications
The Omega Link IF-001 is a USB serial interface designed to configure, integrate, and monitor Omega Link Smart Probes. It functions as a USB CDC/VCP device for computers lacking native serial ports, enabling connection via standard terminal emulators. The series supports integration with SYNC software, Omega Link Cloud, hardware Gateways (including GW-001 Series Wireless IIoT Gateway Pro models), and Omega Enterprise Gateway software.
Compatible measurement technologies accessed through the IF-001 include:
- Infrared temperature sensing (SP-001 and SP-002 series)
- Temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, dewpoint, humidex, and heat index monitoring (SP-003 and SP-004 series)
- RTD-based temperature measurement (SP-005 series)
- Pressure monitoring and control (SP-006 series)
- Load cell applications (SP-010 series)
- Digital interface connections (SP-013 series)
- Process monitoring (SP-014 series)
- Heat flux measurement (SP-016 series)
Operating Conditions & Performance
The IF-001 operates within an ambient temperature range of -20 to 80°C (-4 to 176°F) in non-condensing environments. The M12 connector end is rated NEMA 6 IP67 when mated and withstands vibration up to 10 Gs at 10 Hz to 500 Hz.
Power is supplied via the USB VBus (typically 5 VDC), providing up to 100 mA to connected sensors. The interface delivers a nominal 3.3 VDC excitation voltage to Smart Probes through the M12 connector and includes an integrated power monitor that detects short conditions on the sensor power circuitry.
Communication protocols supported include Modbus RTU and Modbus ASCII. An LED status indicator provides visual feedback for device states, including USB enumeration, transaction activity, pending bootstrap mode, message acknowledgment failures, and detected shorts.
Configuration Options
The IF-001 series is offered as a single configuration with the following documented features:
- Cable Length: 2-meter length cable (Model IF-001)
- Computer Connection: USB Type-A connector, compliant with USB 2.0
- Sensor Connection: M12 8-pin female connector
- Operating System Compatibility: Windows OS 10 and above (USB CDC/VCP device)
- Certifications: CE, WEEE
The IF-001 M12 8-pin connector pinout is defined as follows: Pin 1 (N/A), Pin 2 (INTR - Interrupt Signal), Pin 3 (SCL), Pin 4 (SDA), Pin 5 (Shield Ground), Pin 6 (N/A), Pin 7 (GND - Power Return), and Pin 8 (VCC - Nominal 3.3 VDC).
Key Product Differences
The IF-001 is distinct from the related IF-002 interface, which connects Smart Probes to existing RS485 Modbus RTU serial networks rather than USB ports. While both interfaces support Omega Link software and cloud integration, they differ in physical connectivity and power requirements:
- IF-001 (USB Interface): Features a USB Type-A connector to the computer and an M12 8-pin female connector to the Smart Probe. Powered via USB VBus.
- IF-002 (RS485 Interface): Features an RS485 serial interface for network connection, utilizes an M12 5-pin male connector to the Smart Probe, and operates on a power supply range of 5 to 36 VDC.
