Supported Applications
The Omega MB-Series Miniature Bolt-On RTD Temperature Sensor is designed for easy installation in industrial and commercial environments. These sensors are intended to be mounted on machines, against process pipes, or embedded into machined parts. The series supports applications including process control, system verification, and retrofitting.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The MB-Series utilizes standard platinum RTD elements with a TCR of 0.00385 Ω/Ω/°C to provide stable output compatible with most control systems. Measurement ranges vary by model: the MB-F-* and MB-T-* models cover -70 to 500°C (-94 to 932°F), while the MB-C-*, MB-MF-*, and MB-S1-* models operate from -50 to 260°C (-58 to 500°F). Accuracy options include ±0.12% at 0°C (EN60751, Class B) for PD elements, ±0.36% at 0°C for PE elements, and ±0.06% at 0°C (Meets EN60751, Class A) for PM elements available on MB-S2 models.
Performance characteristics include a typical response time of less than 10 seconds in moving water at 1 m/s. The sensors withstand vibration from 10 to 2000 Hz at 20 G's min per MIL-STD-202, Method 204, Condition D and maintain an insulation resistance of 10 megohms minimum at 100 VDC leads to case.

- MB-MF-*: 0.50 x 0.375 x 0.188" (12.7 x 9.5 x 4.8 mm) with a 0.166" (4.2 mm) hole.
- MB-S1-*: Includes a 1/4-20 x 3/8" long thread with a 7/16" hex head.
- MB-S2-*: Features an M6 x 1 thread, 10 mm long, with a 10 mm hex.
Configuration Options
The series offers interchangeable designs allowing customization for different instrumentation. Configuration options include the following parameters defined by the model number guide: MB-[Model]-[Element]-[Cable Insulation]-[Number of Wires]-[Lead Length].
Sensor Elements and Accuracy
- PD: Platinum (0.00385 TCR) 100 Ω ±0.12% at 0°C (EN60751, Class B), available on all models.
- PF: Platinum (0.00385 TCR) 1000 Ω ±0.12% at 0°C, available on all models.
- PE: Platinum (0.00385 TCR) 100 Ω ±0.36% at 0°C, available for MB-C, MB-MF, MB-S1, and MB-S2.
- PM: Platinum (0.00385 TCR) 100 Ω ±0.06% at 0°C (Meets EN60751, Class A), available for MB-S2 only.
Housing and Wetted Materials
- Stainless steel: Used in MB-F-*, MB-T-*, MB-MF-*, MB-S1-*, and MB-S2-* models.
- Nickel plated copper: Used in the MB-C-* model ring lug.
Cable Insulation Options
- MG: Mica-glass (used with AWG 22 leads on MB-F and MB-T).
- T: PFA insulated.
- S: Stainless steel braid over PFA insulated leads.
Electrical Configuration
The sensors support a 2 or 3-wire configuration. Lead lengths are configurable from 2 to 240 inches. Wire gauges vary by model and wire count: MB-F-* and MB-T-* use AWG 22; MB-C-*, MB-MF-*, MB-S1-*, and MB-S2-* utilize AWG 24 for 2-wire leads or AWG 26 for 3-wire leads.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes models by mounting geometry, temperature range limits, and available accuracy classes. The MB-F-*, MB-T-*, and MB-MF-* models feature flat profiles with threaded holes or ring lugs for surface attachment, whereas the MB-S1-* and MB-S2-* models utilize bolt-on fasteners (NPT 1/4" thread and M6 metric thread respectively) to embed into machined parts. The higher temperature range of -70 to 500°C (-94 to 932°F) is specific to the stainless steel case models MB-F-*, MB-T-*, and MB-MF-* (with PFA insulation), while the nickel plated copper ring lug model MB-C-* and threaded bolt-on models are limited to -50 to 260°C (-58 to 500°F). The highest accuracy Class A element is restricted to the MB-S2-* variant.
