Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series MCS Miniature Current Switches are designed for monitoring current usage in fuse boxes and small control panels. These self-powered devices provide an isolated output signal to indicate when measured AC current reaches a user-adjustable set point.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within an ambient temperature range of 32 to 122°F (0 to 50°C) and supports humidity levels from 10 to 95% RH (non-condensing). Two distinct measurement ranges are available depending on the model configuration: MCS-111050 covers 0.5 to 50 A AC continuous, while MCS-111001 covers 0.01 to 1 A AC continuous.

Performance specifications include a response time of <200 ms and hysteresis of 1%. The unit features an isolated N.O. output rated at 0.3 A @ 130 V DC/AC. No external power supply is required as the device is self-powered.

Configuration Options

The Series MCS offers two primary configurations to accommodate different installation constraints and current levels:

  • Solid Core (MCS-111050): Designed for applications where a power conductor passes through the sensing hole. This version supports currents from 0.5 A up to 50 A AC continuous.
  • No Core (MCS-111001): Features terminal blocks that accept circuit line and load connections directly, supporting currents up to 1 A AC continuous with a minimum set point of 0.01 A.

The housing is constructed from UL 94 V-0 flammability rated ABS with an insulation class of 600 V. Both models include LED indicators for power status and switch activation, along with a potentiometer for adjusting the set point.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between variants lies in their physical construction and minimum current detection capabilities:

  • MCS-111050 (Solid Core): Dimensions are 63/64" [25.15] height, 1-21/32" [42.25] width, and 2-1/32" [51.73] depth.
  • MCS-111001 (No Core): Dimensions are 63/64" [25.15] height, 2-31/64" [63.03] width, and 2-1/32" [51.73] depth.

The series carries CE and cULus approvals. Users must derate the current capacity when using multiple turns to increase measured current; failure to do so may result in damage to the unit.
