Supported Applications

The Omega FTB4700 and FTB4800 series are low-flow liquid turbine flow meters designed for accurate, wide-range metering. The single-jet design combined with high-quality jewel bearings provides long life and tolerance to harsh fluids. Documented applications include chemical batching, proportional chemical injection, fertilizer injection, proportioning of spray chemicals, general flow rate monitoring, and water applications.

The square-wave output signal interfaces easily with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and computer input boards, making the series suitable for OEM control applications. The meters can be combined with the DPF701-A panel flow meter to read flow rate or total flow with a 4 to 20 mA output.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The FTB4800 stainless steel series operates at process temperatures up to 93°C (200°F) and pressures up to 500 psi (35 bar). The FTB4700 nickel-plated brass series is rated for maximum temperatures of 85°C (185°F) and pressures of 175 psi (12 bar).

Accuracy across the series is ±1% FS. Flow ranges vary by model, covering:

  • FTB4705: 0.2 to 10 GPM
  • FTB4707: 0.2 to 18 GPM
  • FTB4805: 0.1 to 10 GPM (.38-38 LPM)
  • FTB4807: 0.2 to 15 GPM (.75-57 LPM)
  • FTB4810: 0.5 to 25 GPM (1.9-95 LPM)

The maximum pressure drop is specified as 15 psig.

Configuration Options

The series offers two primary housing materials: nickel-plated brass for the FTB4700 and 316 stainless steel (SS) for the FTB4800. Process connections include female NPT threads in sizes of ½", ¾", and 1"; SAE is optional on select models.

Wetted materials are configured by series:

  • FTB4700 (Brass): Body: Nickel-plated brass; Rotor Chamber: Brass; Rotor: Thermoplastic; Shaft: Tungsten carbide; Bearings: Water cooled thermoplastic.
  • FTB4800 (Stainless Steel): Body and Cover: 316 SS; Rotor: PVDF; Shaft: Nickel-bonded tungsten carbide (ceramic optional); Bearings: Ruby ring and ball; O-Ring: PFA-coated FKM (EPDM or Perfluoroelastomer optional).

Electrical specifications include a squarewave output. Power requirements are 5 to 30 Vdc for the FTB4700 series and 6 to 24 Vdc for the FTB4800 series, with a maximum current of 20 mA. Standard sensor cables are #22 AWG 3-conductor: 3.7 m (12') for FTB4700 models and 5.5 m (18') for FTB4800 models. The maximum cable run is 610 m (2000').

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between the FTB4700 and FTB4800 families based on housing material, pressure rating, temperature limit, and wetted component composition.

  • Housing: The FTB4700 utilizes a nickel-plated brass body with union-type meter couplings. The FTB4800 features an extremely rugged 316 stainless steel package.
  • Bearings and Rotor: The FTB4700 employs water-cooled thermoplastic bearings and a thermoplastic rotor, ideal for water applications. The FTB4800 uses ruby ring and ball jewel bearings with a PVDF rotor to handle harsh fluids.
  • Ratings: The stainless steel FTB4800 supports higher pressure (500 psi vs 175 psi) and temperature (200°F/93°C vs 185°F/85°C) limits compared to the brass FTB4700.
  • Dimensions: Overall dimensions vary by model number, with lengths ranging from 104 mm (4.1 in) for smaller stainless models up to 259 mm (10.2 in) for larger brass configurations.
