Supported Applications

The Omega Linear Thermistor Sensor Kit series provides linear thermistor components and probes for temperature sensing applications. These kits consist of a thermistor composite for temperature measurement paired with an external resistor composite to create a linearized output via a voltage divider network modified by additional resistors. The system is designed for integration with recorders, digital voltmeters, and multiplexing systems.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series covers multiple temperature ranges depending on the specific kit configuration:

  • Kits 44201/44202: Ranges of 0 to 100°C (32 to 212°F) and -5 to 45°C (23 to 113°F).
  • Kits 44203/44204: Ranges of -30 to 50°C (-22 to 122°F) and -2 to 38°C (+30 to 100°F).
  • Kit 44211A: Range of -55 to 85°C (-67 to 185°F).
  • Kit 44212: Range of -50 to 50°C (-58 to 122°F).

Accuracy and linearity vary by model. For example, Kit 44201 exhibits a thermistor accuracy of ±0.15°C (-30 to 100°C) with a linearity deviation of ±0.216°C (±0.388°F). Kit 44212 offers higher precision in specific conditions, showing an accuracy of ±0.1°C (-50 to 50°C) and a linearity deviation as low as ±0.08°C under Condition B.

Response time is documented as one second in "well stirred" oil and ten seconds in free, still air (time required to indicate 63% of a newly impressed temperature). Maximum excitation voltages range from 2.0 Volts to 4.0 Volts depending on the kit; exceeding these values may enlarge error bands due to self-heating unless better heat-sink methods are employed.

Configuration Options

The series is configured as kits combining specific thermistor and resistor composites. Key configurable parameters include:

  • Kits (Linear Kit Model No.): 44201, 44202, 44203, 44204, 44211A, and 44212.
  • Thermistor Composites: Models 44018, 44019, and 44020 serve as the sensing elements within these kits.
  • Resistor Composites: Linearizing networks include models such as 44301 through 44304, 44311A, and 44312. Resistor values vary by kit; for instance, Kit 44201 uses R₁ = 3200 Ω and R₂ = 6250 Ω.
  • Output Signals: The system produces Voltage (Eout) or Resistance (Rt) outputs. Output equations are provided for both positive slope (e.g., Eout = (+0.0053483 Ein) T +0.13493 Ein) and negative slope configurations.
  • Electrical Connections: Wired connections supporting 2-wire, 3-wire, or multiplexed arrangements are available.

Load resistance requirements vary by kit; minimum load resistances (R.L.) include values of 3 MΩ and 10 MΩ. Maximum current limits (*I_T MAX) range from 475 μA to 833 μA depending on the specific composite.

Key Product Differences

Variations within the series are defined by the combination of thermistor and resistor composites, which dictate the temperature range, accuracy class, linearity deviation, and electrical parameters:

  • Kits 44201–44204 utilize Thermistor Composite Model No. 44018 but pair it with different resistor composites (e.g., 44301 vs. 44303) to achieve distinct ranges and linearity deviations.
  • Kits 44211A and 44212 employ Thermistor Composites 44019 and 44020 respectively, targeting wider or lower temperature spans with different accuracy profiles (e.g., ±0.4°C for Kit 44211A vs. ±0.1°C for Kit 44212).
  • Condition A vs. Condition B: Linearity deviation is dependent on resistor tolerance; Condition "B" exists when resistors are within ±0.02% of nominal, reducing linearity deviation compared to the worst-case Condition "A" (±0.15°C).
