Supported Applications

The Omega SGK series comprises Karma Shear Half Bridge Strain Gauges with a common lead, designed for shear strain and torsional strain measurement. These gages are utilized in transducer design applications including shear beam load cells and reaction torque on shafts.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series features nominal resistances of 350 Ω or 1,000 Ω depending on the specific model configuration. Maximum permitted bridge energizing voltage (Vrms) is specified as either 11 Vrms or 15 Vrms based on temperature compensation material selection. Electrical termination utilizes solder pads.

Configuration Options

The SGK series offers configurable gage patterns, dimensions, and resistance values to accommodate specific transducer geometries. Available configurations include:

  • Gage Patterns: Single ¼ bridge, single ¼ matched reversed pattern, ½ bridge with separate leads/tabs, or ½ bridge with common lead/tab.
  • Nominal Resistance: Options for 350 Ω and 1,000 Ω (e.g., SGK-SDH3B models).
  • Gage Dimensions: Active gage lengths of 9.2 mm, 9.8 mm, or 10.2 mm with corresponding matrix widths.
  • Temperature Compensation: Configurable for Steel (ST) or Aluminum (AL).

Packaging is provided in packages of five units per model number. Custom gages are available with fast delivery upon request.

Accessories and Options

  • Ribbon leads from strain gage or user-supplied fine gage wire (30 AWG).
  • Instrumentation wire 20 to 28 AWG.
  • Bondable Terminal Pads (BTP) for stress relief and junctions for different-gage wires.

Key Product Differences

Differences within the series are defined by gage pattern codes, dimensions, resistance values, and temperature compensation materials. Model numbers follow the format SGK-PATTERN-K350U-PC11 or PC23-E.

  • Pattern Codes: SS3A, SS3B (9.2 mm), SD3A, SD3B (9.8–10.2 mm).
  • Resistance Variants: Standard 350 Ω models versus high-resistance 1,000 Ω variants such as the SGK-SDH3B.
  • Compensation Material Codes: PC11 denotes Steel (ST) compensation with a maximum voltage of 11 Vrms; PC23 denotes Aluminum (AL) compensation with a maximum voltage of 15 Vrms.
