Supported Applications
The Omega FLR Series consists of rugged in-line flow sensors designed for process control applications. These microprocessor-based variable area flow meters combine piston-type technology with solid-state circuitry to monitor both instantaneous flow rate and total accumulated flow. The series is available for liquid or gas service, supporting media including oil (API Oil), water, water-based fluids, caustic and corrosive liquids, air/compressed gases, and phosphate esters.
Documented applications include:
- Bearing lubrication
- Case drain verification
- Gun drill and machine cooling
- Pump flow outputs
Operating Conditions & Performance
The FLR Series operates within a process temperature range of -29 to 116°C (-20 to 240°F). Maximum pressure ratings are specified as 3500 psig for liquids and 1000 psig for gases. The units feature an enclosure rating of NEMA 12 and 13 (IP52/54) with a response time of 1.0 sec.
Performance specifications include:
- Accuracy: 2% FS
- Repeatability: ±0.5%
- Non-Linearity: ±0.05%
- Temperature Drift: 0.05% of span per °C maximum
The sensors provide in-field compensation for specific gravity, viscosity, pressure, and temperature. They require no straight pipe run requirement and can mount in any position.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable dimensions across multiple nominal port sizes: ¼ (SAE 6), ½ (SAE 6), ¾ (SAE 6), 1 (SAE 6), 1¼ (SAE 6), and 1½ (SAE 6). Process connections are available in NPT, with British standard pipe thread parallel (-BSPP) as an option.
Body materials include:
- Anodized aluminum (2024 - T351)
- C360 brass
Wetted parts consist of 2024-T351 anodized aluminum or C360 brass for the body, piston, and cone; T316 SS spider plate; T302 SS spring; FKM pressure seals; and PPS/ceramic internal magnet.
Output signals are available in:
- 4 to 20 mA (loop-powered, 30 Vdc maximum)
- 0 to 5 Vdc
- 0 to 10 Vdc
The display features an 8-digit numeric readout for rate and totalizer values alongside an alphanumeric display for units and setup. Optional accessories include a NIST certificate (add "-NISTS" suffix) and remote display options.
Key Product Differences
Variants are distinguished by flow range, medium type, port size, and body material:
- Liquid Ranges (Oil/Water): Models cover ranges from 0.2 to 150 GPM across various NPT sizes.
- Gaseous Ranges (Air @ 100 psi): Models cover ranges from 2 to 1000 SCFM.
- Housing Options: Standard models feature anodized and epoxy powder-coated aluminum with a polycarbonate lens; brass body options are available for specific liquid applications.
- Connection Types: Standard NPT connections or optional BSPP threads via model suffix modification.
