Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series 3ZV2 Three-Way Detachable Zone Valves are designed for flow control in hot and cold water HVAC systems. These electrically driven units utilize a bidirectional motor to open or close the valve, typically operating in conjunction with a thermostat to regulate room temperature. The series serves as direct replacements for competitor units.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series 3ZV2 operates within an ambient temperature range of 32 to 104°F (0 to 40°C) and a process fluid temperature range of 37 to 201°F (3 to 94°C). Pressure limits are rated at a maximum of 300 psi (20.7 bar), with a close-off pressure of 43 psi (2.96 bar). The valve body features a quick opening flow characteristic and is constructed from brass, stainless steel, and NBR wetted materials compatible with specified fluids.

Performance timing for the actuator includes an opening cycle time of 50 to 65 s. Power consumption varies by input type: Floating models consume 2.5 VA, while Modulating models consume 3.5 VA.

Configuration Options

The series is available in four line sizes ranging from 1/2" to 1-1/4", with corresponding flow coefficients (Cv) of 3.8, 5.4, 6.7, and 9.8 respectively. Units are offered with standard Female NPT end connections; optional BSP or sweat connections are available upon consultation.

Power supply options include 120 VAC or 24 VAC (±10%, 50/60 Hz), with an optional 220 VAC power supply. Input configurations differ by model:

  • Floating input: Controlled directly from a thermostat via a 3-wire connection.
  • Modulating input: Accepts either 4 to 20 mA or 0 to 10 VDC signals (available on 24 VAC power models only).

The actuator housing is constructed of PVC and polycarbonate, featuring a detachable design removable by turn key for installation without the motor. A manual override lever provides external accessibility.

Key Product Differences

Differences within the Series 3ZV2 are defined by size, supply voltage, and input type as detailed in the model selection table:

  • Floating models (e.g., 3ZV20214): Designed for direct thermostat control with a 3-wire electrical connection.
  • Modulating models (e.g., 3ZV20224): Accept analog signals (0 to 10 VDC or 4 to 20 mA) and include a motor time out feature that automatically turns off the motor after full stroke to increase motor life.
  • Voltage variants: Models are available in both 120 VAC and 24 VAC configurations; modulating input is restricted to 24 VAC supply models.

The series includes optional auxiliary switches. The unit is not field serviceable; repair requires return authorization from the manufacturer.
