Supported Applications

The Omega RAT, SAT, and BAT series comprises high-temperature platinum thermocouple assemblies with ceramic protection tubes. These probes are designed for use in oxidizing or reducing atmospheres up to 1650°C (3000°F). The series includes temperature test plugs featuring self-sealing inserts that allow quick readings without leaving gages on the line.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The assemblies are rated for process temperatures up to 1650°C (3000°F) and pressures up to 1000 psig. Specific operating limits include:

  • Temperature Range: Up to 1650°C (3000°F)
  • Pressure Rating: Up to 1000 psig
  • Limited Condition: Up to 95°C (200°F) at 500 psig
  • Ambient Limit Note: A separate specification lists up to 135°C (275°F)

The protection tube material is high-purity alumina. Wetted materials include brass, stainless steel, neoprene, and Nordel.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable thermocouple calibrations, wire sizes, and insulator dimensions to meet specific installation needs.

Sensor Elements & Calibrations

  • Type R: Pt vs Pt 13% Rh (RAT models)
  • Type S: Pt vs Pt 10% Rh (SAT models)
  • Type B: Pt 6% Rh vs Pt 30% Rh (BAT models)

Wire Sizes & Insulators

Awg wire sizes available include 20, 24, and 30. Replacement elements are offered as bare wires or with double-hole round insulators made of 99.7% + Al₂O₃.

Protection Tube Dimensions

  • Diameter: 6.0 mm (¼") and 9.5 mm (⅜") OD options
  • Insulator OD: 3.0 mm (⅛") for 6.0 mm tubes; 4.5 mm (⅜") for 9.5 mm tubes

Housing & Connections

The assemblies feature a cast iron NB1-2 connection head with a terminal block. Process connections include:

  • ¼ NPT male and female fittings
  • ½ NPT male fitting (optional)
  • OMEGA Plug options: OPNE14, OPNO14, OPNE12, OPNO12 with Neoprene or Nordel valve cores

Accessories & Replacement Parts

The series supports replacement protection tubes (PTR A Series) and a Gage Adaptor (GASS18). Specific PTR models include PTR A-31614-137/8-1 for 6 mm (¼") OD and PTR A-1438-137/8-1 for 9.5 mm (⅜") OD.

Key Product Differences

The series is distinguished by the thermocouple calibration prefix: RAT denotes Type R, SAT denotes Type S, and BAT denotes Type B. Model numbers follow a structure of RAT-30-12, where the first segment indicates the type, the second represents AWG wire size (e.g., 30), and the third corresponds to protection tube OD in inches or millimeters.

Replacement elements are available as bare wires (no insulators) or with double-hole round insulators. For example, Bare-20-S-12 indicates a Type S element with 20 AWG wire and no insulator, while XDH-20-S-12 includes the insulator.

Note: The alumina tube is shipped separately to avoid breakage; assemblies are shipped unassembled. Replacement elements include leads of sufficient length to reach terminals in the head.
