Supported Applications
The Omega HTMG series is Mica-Glass Insulated Ultra High Temperature Heater Hook-Up Wire designed for appliances and industrial heating products. Documented applications include commercial food service equipment, heaters, heat treating furnaces, kilns, heater elements, and other uses requiring operation up to 450°C (842°F).
Operating Conditions & Performance
The HTMG series is rated for a process temperature of 450°C (842°F). The wire features a single stranded conductor composed of 27% nickel-coated copper. Insulation consists of mica tape with a treated glass overbraid, providing the necessary thermal protection for high-temperature environments.
Construction and Materials
- Conductor: Single stranded 27% nickel-coated copper
- Insulation: Mica tape with treated glass overbraid (sheath material: Treated Glass Braid)
- Standard Color: Natural (tan)
Configuration Options
The series offers a broad range of configurations defined by wire gage, voltage rating, strand count, and spool length. The model number format follows the pattern HTMG----C-*, where specific parameters are selected to match installation requirements.
Gages and Voltage Ratings
The series supports wire gages from 22 down to 8. Each gage is available in two voltage ratings:
- 300 Volts: Models designated with a "3" prefix (e.g., HTMG-1CU-322S/C)
- 600 Volts: Models designated with a "6" prefix (e.g., HTMG-1CU-622S/C)
Stranding and Dimensions
Conductor stranding varies by gage to maintain flexibility. For example, 22 Gage wire uses a "7 x 30" strand configuration for both voltage ratings, while larger gages such as 14 utilize "41 x 30." Nominal outer diameters range from 2.0 mm (0.08 inch) for the smallest configurations to 6.1 mm (0.26 inch) for the largest.
Spool Lengths
The final segment of the model number specifies spool length in feet. Available lengths include:
- 25ft (7.6m)
- 50ft (15.2m)
- 100ft (30.4m)
- 250ft (76.2m)
- 500ft (152m)
- 1000ft (304m)
Key Product Differences
Variants within the HTMG series are distinguished by their gage, voltage rating, and physical dimensions. The primary difference between paired models of the same gage is the insulation thickness required for 300 Volts versus 600 Volts ratings, which results in different nominal outer diameters (OD) and approximate weights per unit length.
Approvals
The HTMG series holds CSA Certified, NRTL, and UL Listed approvals. Engineers should consult the heater hook-up wire introduction for current carrying capacity and derating information specific to their application conditions.
