Supported Applications

The Omega PRS Integral Handle RTD Probes are designed for special application measuring tips, specifically targeting air and liquid measurements. The series includes variants engineered for general purpose use, fast response requirements, penetration into soft and semi-frozen materials, and dedicated airflow monitoring.

  • General Purpose Probe: Standard temperature measurement in liquids and gases.
  • Fast Response Probe: Applications requiring rapid thermal tracking.
  • Penetration Probe: Insertion into soft and semi-frozen materials using a conical tip design.
  • Air Probe: Airflow measurements utilizing a drilled end for air passage over the shielded element.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series utilizes Standard 3-Wire DIN Platinum RTD 100 Ω sensors with an accuracy class of IEC Class B, providing ±0.30°C @ 0°C performance. Measurement ranges vary by probe type: General Purpose, Fast Response, and Penetration Probes are rated to 600°C (1110°F), while the Air Probe is rated to 260°C (500°F). The probes feature rugged 304SS sheaths with high-impact plastic handles. A critical operational constraint is that the handle itself is rated only to 150°C (300°F).

Configuration Options

The PRS series offers configurable probe geometries and electrical connection options tailored to specific measurement environments.

Probe Types and Dimensions

  • General Purpose Probe: 4.5 mm (3/16") OD sheath, 300 mm (12") stem length.
  • Fast Response Probe: Reduced diameter of 3 mm (1/8") for faster thermal response; rated to 600°C (1110°F).
  • Penetration Probe: 4.5 mm (3/16") OD with a conical tip designed for insertion into soft and semi-frozen materials.
  • Air Probe: 4.5 mm (3/16") OD featuring a miniature RTD element shielded by the sheath, with a drilled end to facilitate airflow; rated to 260°C (500°F).

Electrical Connections and Options

The standard electrical connection is stripped lead termination. Optional connectors are available via specific suffixes:

  • -OTP-M: OTP quick disconnect connector.
  • -PP: Phone Plug.
  • -TA3F or -TA4F: Series T mini-connector (variants include TA3F and TA4F).

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes itself through specific probe tip geometries and temperature limits. The Fast Response Probe utilizes a smaller 3 mm (1/8") diameter sheath compared to the 4.5 mm (3/16") OD used in General Purpose, Penetration, and Air Probes. While most probes share a maximum rating of 600°C (1110°F), the Air Probe is limited to 260°C (500°F) due to its internal shielding design for airflow applications. The Penetration Probe features a conical tip distinct from the standard tips, enabling use in soft and semi-frozen materials.

Model numbers follow the format PRS-[PROBE_TYPE]-100-E-[LENGTH], where probe types include GP (General Purpose), FR (Fast Response), NP (Penetration), and AP (Air). The handle is permanently attached to the probe for added strength, distinguishing these from probes with detachable handles.
