Supported Applications
The Omega FMA5000A Series comprises economical gas mass flow controllers designed for precise control of clean gases in industrial and laboratory applications. The series is calibrated for nitrogen as a standard, with other gas calibrations available by special order using specific multiplication factors to determine the actual flow rate.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The FMA5000A Series operates within an ambient and process temperature range of 5°C to 50°C (41°F to 122°F). Accuracy specifications vary by flow capacity: units with a flow range less than 100 SLM offer ±1% FS accuracy including linearity over the specified operating conditions, while units ≥ 100 SLM provide ±1.5% FS accuracy. For flows from 0 to 20% of the full scale range, accuracy is rated at ±3% FS.
Repeatability across the series is ±0.5% of full scale. The response time is specified as 5 seconds to reach within ±2% of the set flow rate over a span of 25% to 100% of full scale. Pressure ratings are up to 35 kg/cm² gage (500 psig), with ranges up to 100 SLM supporting pressures up to 70 kg/cm² gage (1000 psig). The electronics feature reverse-polarity protection and a resettable fuse.
Configuration Options
The series supports extensive configuration options regarding body material, display integration, flow range, and output signals. Key configurable dimensions include:
- Housing Materials: Available in economical Aluminum/Brass or corrosion-resistant 316 Stainless Steel (indicated by the "-ST" suffix).
- Display Options: Models are offered with an integral tiltable LCD display (FMA5500A Series) or without a display for remote readout configurations (FMA5400A Series). The FMA5500A Series LCD connects via a modular plug and can be remotely located using optional cable assemblies.
- Flow Ranges: Available in discrete steps from 10 SCCM to 1000 SLM, covering low-flow (SCCM) and high-volume (SLM) requirements.
- Output Signals: Standard outputs include 0 to 5 Vdc or 4 to 20 mA. Load resistance requirements are a minimum of 1000 Ω for the voltage output and 50 to 500 Ω loop resistance for the current output.
- Process Connections: Standard units include compression fittings; models with the FMA545C accessory feature ¼ FNPT connections instead.
Power is supplied via a DC input of 12 to 26 Vdc @ 800 mA maximum. Optional accessories include socket plug-in power supplies for 100 to 240 Vac (FMA545PW) and remote LCD mounting cables in lengths of 3.0 m (10') or 7.6 m (25').
Key Product Differences
The series is divided into two primary model families distinguished by the presence of an integral display:
- FMA5400A Series: Gas mass flow controllers without an integral display. These units are designed for applications where a remote readout or external monitoring system is preferred.
- FMA5500A Series: Identical in function to the FMA5400A but includes an integral LCD display that tilts over 90 degrees for viewing convenience. The electronics are housed separately from the sensor, allowing the display module to be remotely mounted.
Within each family, model numbers differentiate between body materials (Aluminum/Brass vs. Stainless Steel) and specific maximum flow rates. For example, FMA5402A denotes an aluminum/brass unit without a display for 10 SCCM, while FMA5502A-ST indicates the stainless steel version with a display.
