Supported Applications
The ACI Fixed "Status" Current switches are designed for AC current monitoring applications requiring a "Go/No Go" or On/Off status indication. These devices monitor the line side of power to motors, pumps, compressors, and other equipment. The series supports determining equipment run time and basic load trending by logging contact closures in building management systems or PLCs.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The switches operate on AC Current with a maximum voltage rating of 600 VAC across an operating frequency range of 40 to 1 kHz. Sensor power is induced from the monitored conductor, eliminating external excitation requirements. The series provides electrical isolation up to 2200 VAC.
Performance specifications include:
- Ampereage Range: 0 to 250A
- Status Contact Rating: 0.2A @ 200 VAC/VDC
- Contact Resistance: < 10 Ohms (tripped) | > 1 Meg Ohms (Open)
- Operating Temperature Range: 5 to 104°F (-15 to 40°C)
- Operating Humidity Range: 0 to 95%, non-condensing
- Status LED Indication: Red LED (Monitored current is above Trip Point)
Note: The Fixed Current Switches are not intended for Life or Safety applications and must not be used in hazardous or classified locations. Additionally, the A/CS2 and A/SCS2 Series must be used on insulated conductors only.
Configuration Options
The series is available with configurable core styles, contact types, trip points, and amp ranges to suit specific installation needs.
- Core Style: Solid-Core versions are offered for new installations or OEM applications; Split-Core versions allow retrofitting without disconnecting wires.
- Contact Type: Normally-Open (N/O) or Normally-Closed (N/C).
- Trip Point Types: Fixed Trip Points vary by model, including 0.25A or less, 1.5A or less, and 0.5A or less.
- Amp Range: All listed variants support a range of 0 to 250A.
- Mounting: Includes a patented 35 mm DIN rail mounting foot (U.S. Patent No. 7,416,421).
- Aperture Size: 0.75" (19.05 mm)
The enclosure material is PC/ABS (Polycarbonate/ABS Blend) with a UL94-V0 flammability rating. Wiring connections utilize a 2 Position Screw Terminal Block that is not polarity sensitive, accepting 16 to 22 AWG copper wires only.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between solid-core and split-core architectures with specific model families:
- A/CS2 / A/CSX2 (Solid-Core): Designed for lower trip points of 0.25A or less. The A/CS2 features a Normally-Open contact, while the A/CSX2 provides a Normally-Closed contact.
- A/SCS2 / A/SCSX2 (Split-Core): Designed for retrofit applications with trip points of 1.5A or less. The A/SCS2 is Normally-Open, and the A/SCSX2 is Normally-Closed.
- A/SCS2-L (Split-Core): Offers a lower split-core trip point of 0.5A or less with a Normally-Open contact configuration.
Response times vary by model and specific ampereage setting, ranging from as low as 156mS to over 484mS depending on the selected trip point (see Response Time Table in source documentation). Product dimensions differ slightly between core styles: Solid Core Versions measure 2.760" x 3.343" x 1.050", while Split Core Versions measure 2.780" x 3.238" x 1.120".
