Supported Applications

The Dwyer Model L8 FLOTECT® Liquid Level Switch is designed for liquid level alarm, indication, or control. The series provides accurate set point control of compatible liquids with specific gravities as low as 0.6 minimum.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The switch operates within a temperature limit of 212°F (100°C) and supports a pressure rating up to 150 psig (10.34 bar). The unit is constructed with wetted materials including Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS) for the float and body, Ceramic 8 magnets, and pins/springs made of 316 SS or Inconel® alloy depending on configuration.

Electrical ratings vary by option:

• Standard SPDT snap switch: 5 A @ 125/250 VAC, 5 A resistive, 3 A inductive @ 30 VDC
• MV Option (Gold Plated Contacts): Rated for dry circuits at 1 A @ 125 VAC; 1 A resistive, 0.5 A inductive @ 30 VDC

The device features a leak-proof body and is magnetically actuated to eliminate direct mechanical linkage.

Configuration Options

The Series L8 offers configurable options for wetted materials, contact types, and enclosure ratings. The standard process connection is 1/2" male NPT (data sheet) or 1" male NPT (manual); the data sheet specifies 1/2" male NPT as the primary series value.

Available configurations include:

• -INC Option: Inconel® alloy replaces standard 316 SS wetted parts. Wetted parts consist of Inconel® alloy, ceramic 8, and polyphenylene sulfide.
• -MV Option: Gold plated contacts for dry circuits with reduced electrical ratings suitable for low-current applications.
• -WP Option: Weatherproof enclosure with a phenylpolioxide housing providing protection for electrical wiring. Note: This option is not UL approved.
• -WP2 Option: Weatherproof enclosure with an aluminum housing providing protection for electrical wiring. Note: This option is not UL approved.

The standard unit features a general purpose enclosure rating, while WP and WP2 options provide weatherproof ratings. Electrical connections are provided via 18 AWG wires, 18" (460 mm) long. Conduit connection is available as 1/2" male NPT on the standard model; WP and WP2 models feature a 1/2" female NPT conduit connection.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between standard, dry-circuit, and weatherproof configurations. The Model L8 base unit utilizes Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS) for the float and body with 316 SS pins/springs as standard wetted materials.

• Model L8: Standard level switch with general purpose enclosure, SPDT snap switch, and 5 A electrical rating.
• Model L8-MV: Incorporates gold plated contacts for dry circuit applications; rated at 1 A @ 125 VAC. The standard PPS body is retained unless combined with other options.
• Model L8-WP: Features a phenylpolioxide weatherproof enclosure housing the electrical wiring. This configuration includes an SPDT gold contact snap switch and carries no UL approval for the enclosure option itself, though CE compliance applies to the series where noted.
• Model L8-WP2: Utilizes an aluminum weatherproof enclosure instead of phenylpolioxide. Like the -WP option, it is not UL approved but provides environmental protection for wiring.

All models require horizontal mounting with the index arrow pointing down and are CE compliant; standard units carry cURus approval (data sheet) or UL 508 recognition (manual). The series is not field serviceable.
