Supported Applications

The Dwyer Model 472A-1 is a Dual Input Thermocouple Thermometer designed to measure up to two temperature inputs simultaneously. The instrument accepts Type J, K, and T thermocouples equipped with mini-jack connectors. It displays both individual temperature readings or one input alongside the differential temperature between the two channels.

Documented probe applications include:

  • Liquids and air-compatible gases (General Purpose Probes)
  • Semi-soft materials such as meat, plastic, rubber, and asphalt (Penetration Probes)
  • Air ducts
  • Surface measurements
  • Immersion applications

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Model 472A-1 operates within an ambient temperature range of 32° to 122°F (0° to 50°C) and a humidity rating of 0 to 85% relative humidity (Non-Condensing). The instrument features a triple LCD display with a built-in backlight for viewing in poorly lit environments. A hold function freezes displayed data, while minimum and maximum readings can be recorded over a set time period.

Measurement ranges by thermocouple type are:

  • J-type: -328° to 1400°F (-200° to 760°C)
  • K-type: -328° to 2498°F (-200° to 1370°C)
  • T-type: -328° to 734°F (-200° to 390°C)

Accuracy is specified as ±0.13% reading + 1.4°F + .006°F below 1000°F, with a resolution of 0.1°C up to 500°C.

Configuration Options

The Model 472A-1 is powered by a user-replaceable 9 V alkaline battery (installed non-functional). The unit includes an automatic shut-off feature after 20 minutes of inactivity to conserve power, which can be disabled via the hold and power buttons. Physical dimensions are 7-1/16 [179.32] inches height, 1-5/16 [33.52] inches width, and 2-19/32 [65.79] inches depth.

Available accessories include:

  • NIST traceable calibration certificate (NISTCAL-TG)
  • Rubber boot (472A-B)
  • Remote probe handler (1718-0077)
  • Immersion, penetration, surface, and air duct probes

The standard package includes a hard carrying case, battery, and one K type thermocouple.

Key Product Differences

This series consists of the single fixed model 472A-1. The instrument is not field serviceable; units requiring repair must be returned to Dwyer Instruments, LLC. Compatible handheld thermocouples include general purpose probes (models 1718-0001 for Type J and 1718-0002 for Type K) rated for use up to 800°F, as well as penetration probes (models 1718-0014 for Type J and 1718-0015 for Type K).
