Supported Applications
The Omega PRTXD Series consists of loop-powered RTD temperature transmitters designed for industrial process monitoring. These microprocessor-controlled units integrate a digital display and a 4-20 mA output signal within a rugged NEMA 4X (IP66) enclosure. The series is engineered to linearize the RTD probe input for both local viewing on the LCD screen and remote transmission via the current loop.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The PRTXD Series operates within a measurement range of -50.0°C to 200.0°C (-58.0°F to 392.0°F). The sensor element is an IEC-751 Class B 100 Ω Platinum RTD with an alpha coefficient of 0.00385, providing accuracy specifications of ±0.3°C at 0°C and ±1.1°C at 150°C (±0.1% of span plus max sensor error). The device features a resolution of 0.1 degree.
Electronics operate within an ambient temperature range of -20 to 85°C (-4 to 185°F), with storage temperatures rated from -40 to 95°C (-40 to 203°F). The transmitter requires a loop power supply that maintains between 8 VDC and 32 VDC at the gauge terminals, with reverse polarity protection. A minimum terminal voltage of 8 VDC is required for proper operation.
The output signal updates approximately four times per second (4 readings per second). For spring-loaded probe configurations, a time constant of approximately 10 seconds applies to an RTD probe in a stainless sheath, reaching 95% of the new temperature span in three time constants. The fixed probe pressure rating is listed as 5000 psi max.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable sensor lengths and mechanical configurations to suit specific installation requirements:
- Housing & Enclosure: Light gray ABS/polycarbonate housing with a gasketed rear cover connection, rated NEMA 4X (IP66).
- Sensor Options: Available in fixed or spring-loaded probe types. Spring-loaded probes are designed for use with thermowells.
- Probe Dimensions: Probe diameter is 0.25" dia. Insertion lengths include 4" and 12", measured from the top of full threads to the tip of the probe.
- Process Connection: Features a ½ NPT male hex nipple constructed from 316 stainless steel.
- Wetted Materials: The probe sheath is made of 316 stainless steel.
- Electrical Connections: Includes a 0.9 m (3') long, 2-conductor 22 AWG cable for loop connection.
The display provides out-of-range indications: "ALARM 1" appears on the display above 200°C (392°F), and "ALARM 2" appears below -50°C (-58°F). A front panel TEST button allows users to set loop current and display to a test calibration level independent of temperature input.
Key Product Differences
The PRTXD Series is available in four distinct model configurations based on sensor length and mechanical type:
- PRTXD-4: RTD transmitter with display and 4" fixed sensor.
- PRTXD-12: RTD transmitter with display and 12" fixed sensor.
- PRTXD-4-SL: RTD transmitter with display and 4" spring-loaded sensor (thermowell required).
- PRTXD-12-SL: RTD transmitter with display and 12" spring-loaded sensor (thermowell required).
Note: Spring-loaded versions must be used with a thermowell. The probe length corresponds to the thermowell 'A' or element length dimension, not the insertion depth.
