Supported Applications

The Omega LVR20/30 series consists of continuous liquid level transmitters designed for sensing levels up to 6 feet using reed switch and magnet technology. These units are engineered as components suitable for various industrial applications, including hazardous areas when paired with appropriate intrinsically safe interface devices.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within a maximum pressure rating of 300 PSIG. Process liquid temperature ranges from -40° to 230°F (-40° to 110°C). Ambient operating temperatures differ by model: the LVR20 supports -40° to 230°F (-40° to 110°C), while the LVR30 operates between 5° to 160°F (-15° to 71.1°C). Storage temperature limits are -40° to 230°F (-40° to 110°C) for the LVR20 and -40° to 212°F (-40° to 100°C) for the LVR30.

Accuracy specifications vary by series: the LVR20 provides ±½" accuracy, while the LVR30 offers 0.4% of full scale or ±½", whichever is greater. The resolution is specified as ¼". Minimum fluid specific gravity required for operation is 0.75 S.G.

Configuration Options

The series supports two primary output configurations and electrical connection types:

  • LVR20 Series (3-wire): Provides a proportional voltage or resistance output via 24"-26" extended 22 AWG Teflon wires. Power supply requirements are 5 to 30 Vdc.
  • LVR30 Series (2-wire): Features an internal signal conditioner providing isolated outputs of 4-20 mA, 0-5 VDC, or 0-12 VDC. These units include a junction box with screw terminal connections and require 10 to 40 Vdc power.

Wetted materials consist of 316 SS for the stem, mounting, and float, with an 18-8 SS float stop. The housing material is stainless steel. Indicating lengths are available from 1 ft to 6 ft (LVR21/LVR31 through LVR26/LVR36). For applications requiring different insertion depths, the series supports adaptor systems comprising an LVR-C coupling (2 x 2 FNPT) and various length LVR-A pipe nipples (2 x 2 MNPT).

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between models lies in their output signal conditioning and electrical interface. The LVR30 series includes a factory-set signal conditioner for standardized current or voltage outputs, whereas the LVR20 provides an analog resistance/voltage divider output requiring external readout adjustment to compensate for lead-wire resistance.

Physical configuration differences include:

  • LVR20: Features a ½ MNPT conduit connection and does not include a junction box; bare wires extend from the top of the unit.
  • LVR30: Includes an integrated J-box with screw terminals. The LVR31 model is noted as smaller than actual size in documentation diagrams.

Intrinsically safe configurations are supported for the LVR20 when used with Omega intrinsic safety barriers and proper power sources; however, LVR30 transmitters cannot be made intrinsically safe. When using adaptor systems to change insertion depth, a zero offset is introduced into the output signal that must be compensated in the readout device.
