- Wire Gauge 24 to 20 AWG
- Wire Type Stranded
Supported Applications
The Omega HPC Series provides crimp-style thermocouple pin and socket contacts designed for use with Model MTC connectors. These hollow core, color-coded contacts are manufactured from specific thermocouple alloy materials to maintain signal integrity in temperature measurement circuits. The series supports the following ANSI symbol types:
- Type J (Iron/Constantan)
- Type K (CHROMEGA®/ALOMEGA®)
- Type T (Copper/Constantan)
- Type E (CHROMEGA®/Constantan)
Additionally, the series offers gold-plated uncompensated copper contacts for non-thermocouple wire applications within the same connector body.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The HPC Series features a hollow pin construction designed specifically for 20 to 24 AWG stranded wire. Contacts are crimp-terminated outside the connector assembly and inserted into the cavity using an insertion tool; they can be removed with a special removal tool if necessary.
Color coding is integral to identification: pins feature red, yellow, and brown color bars, while sockets utilize red, blue, and black color bars. Specific alloy types correspond to distinct coding colors:
- Iron (+): BLK M (Black)
- Constantan (-): YEL N (Yellow)
- Copper (+): RED C (Red)
- CHROMEGA® (+): WHT P (White)
- ALOMEGA® (-): GRN R (Green)
- *Gold-Plated: Color Bands†
The series is sold in packs of 20 contacts.
Variants and Configuration Options
- Pins (Male): Available as HPC-IR-P, HPC-CO-P, HPC-CU-P, HPC-CH-P, HPC-AL-P, and HPC-AU-P.
- Sockets (Female): Available as HPC-IR-S, HPC-CO-S, HPC-CU-S, HPC-CH-S, HPC-AL-S, and HPC-AU-S.
Configuration Options
The series supports a range of accessories required for proper assembly and maintenance. MS Standard Assembly Tools are mandatory to crimp and assemble connectors properly; these should be ordered with the first purchase. The available tooling includes:
- MTC-CT: Heavy duty crimping tool
- MTC-IT: Insertion Tool (required for inserting contacts into cavity)
- MTC-RT: Removal Tool (for removing contacts)
Additional options include sealing plugs, model no. MTC-HP, which are used with non-thermocouple wire in the same body. Backshell cable clamps are recommended for use with each cord style connector.
Key Product Differences
The HPC Series is distinguished by its specific alloy composition and gender (pin or socket). Model numbers follow the format HPC--, where the Alloy Type corresponds to the thermocouple material (e.g., IR for Iron, CO for Constantan) and Gender indicates Pin (P) or Socket (S).
When configuring a connector body, pins and sockets must be matched to their respective thermocouple alloys. For example, a 12-cavity connector carrying 6 thermocouple circuits requires 6 positive alloy contacts and 6 negative alloy contacts per body. Style MC bodies mate with both style FF and style FC connectors.
For applications requiring grommets or specific pricing on sealing plugs, the Sales Department should be consulted for price and delivery details.
