Supported Applications
The Omega CN400 Series comprises single and dual input PID process controllers designed for industrial automation. These units manage temperature control via thermocouples (TC) and resistance temperature detectors (RTD), as well as general process signals including voltage, current, millivolt inputs, and potentiometer readings. The series supports configurations for two separate heating or cooling PID control loops or mathematical operations between two distinct process values.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The CN400 Series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 45 °C and a relative humidity rating of 35 to 95 RH%. The front panel features an IP65 enclosure rating, while the box and terminal blocks are rated IP20. Measurement accuracy is specified as ±0.2% F.S. ±1 digit F.S. for TC and RTD inputs, and ±0.2% F.S. for 4-20 mA and 0-10 V outputs.
Input capabilities cover a broad range of sensor types:
- Thermocouples: Types K, S, R, J, T, N, B (-25 to 85°C)
- Thermoresistances (RTD): PT100, PT500, PT1000, NI100, PTC1K, NTC10K (β 3435K)
- Process Signals: 0 to 10 V (50000 points), 0/4 to 20 mA (40000 points), 0 to 60 mV (25000 points)
- Potentiometer: 1 to 150 KΩ (50000 points)
The controller resolution is 16 bit, with a programmable response time up to 2.1 ms (frequency up to 470 Hz). The housing material consists of PC UL94V-2 self-extinguishing plastic for both the main body and front panel.
Power Supply & Electrical Ratings
The series offers an extended power supply range depending on the model configuration:
- Single Loop Versions (e.g., CN401): 24 to 230 VAC/VDC ±15% 50/60 Hz with galvanic isolation of 2.5 kV.
- Dual Input Models (CN402): Available in 24 VAC/VDC or 115 to 230 VAC versions, both ±15% 50/60 Hz.
The unit is UL Certified. Safety precautions note that the product is designed for indoor use only and must be protected by a fuse rated at 1A (cl. 9.6.2). Terminal tightening torque requirements are specified as 0,51 Nm for relay and power supply terminals, and 0,19 Nm for other terminals.
Outputs & Communication
The CN400 Series supports multiple output configurations including command signals, multiple alarms, or analogue retransmission. Available outputs include:
- Relay Output: 2 A at 250 V AC resistive change.
- SSR Drive: 12 / 24 V DC - 30 mA max.
- Analog Retransmission: 4 to 20 mA or 0 to 10 V DC (±0.2% F.S.).
- Digital Communication: RS485 Modbus RTU - Slave protocol with baud rates from 4800 to 115200.
Housing & Dimensions
The controllers feature a standard DIN footprint of 48 x 48 mm (front panel) with an overall depth of 105 mm. The approximate weight is 185 g. Electrical connections are made via terminal blocks.
Configuration Options
The CN400 Series provides configurable options for single or dual analogue inputs and varying output combinations to suit specific control architectures. Programming is facilitated through NFC/RFID technology using the Omega Direct Link app for Android devices, allowing setup without wiring.
- Single Input Models (CN401): Configurable with 2 relays + 2 SSRs or 3 relays + 2 SSRs. Includes options for Digital Inputs (D.I.) and one analogue output V/mA. The CN401-11445-C4 variant adds RS485 communication.
- Dual Input Models (CN402): Designed for two separate PID loops or mathematical operations between process values. These models feature 3 relays, 2 SSRs, and up to 4 Digital Inputs/Outputs depending on the use of a CT module. They include dual analogue outputs V/mA and RS485 communication.
Additional accessories available for the series include Memory Cards, LABSOFTVIEW software, or EASY-UP tools.
Key Product Differences
The CN400 Series is divided into two primary model families based on input count and power supply requirements:
- CN401 Family (Single Input): Models such as CN401-11445, CN401-11445-C4, and CN401-111445. These units accept one analogue input. The CN401-111445 variant supports 3 relays, whereas the standard configuration includes 2 relays. All single-loop versions support a universal power supply of 24 to 230 VAC/VDC.
- CN402 Family (Dual Input): Models such as CN402-1114455-C4 and CN402-1114455-C4-DC. These units accept two analogue inputs. The CN402 models are available with specific power supply options: 24 VAC/VDC (indicated by the -DC suffix) or 115 to 230 VAC.
Model numbers follow a structure of CN40x - <power supply> - <model variant>. Specific configurations, such as those including RS485 communication or additional digital I/O via CT modules, are denoted by suffixes like "-C4" in the part number.
