Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series VBS Compact Vibration Switch is designed to continuously monitor changes in a machine's vibration level. The unit takes real-time RMS (Root Mean Square) vibration input and provides an analog output of velocity, as well as a switching output when an alarm value is exceeded.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series VBS operates within an ambient temperature range of -22 to 221°F (-30 to 105°C). The device features an enclosure rating of NEMA 6 (IP67) and is constructed with PBT, PC, FPM, and 316 SS housing materials. Performance specifications include an accuracy of < ±3% and repeatability of < 0.5%. Nonlinearity is specified as < ±0.25% of span.

Power requirements are met by a supply voltage of 18 to 32 VDC. The unit supports mounting in all orientations.

Configuration Options

The series offers two primary measurement ranges configured via specific models:

• VBS-1: Switch output range of 0 to 25 mm/s Vrms.
• VBS-2: Switch output range of 0 to 50 mm/s Vrms.

The Series VBS utilizes two easy set-up dials that adjust the maximum RMS velocity set point and false trip time delay. The switch time delay is adjustable from 1 to 60 seconds (or s). Electrical connectivity is provided via an M12 connector, specifically a 4-pin connection.

Output signals include:

• Analog output: 4 to 20 mA
• Digital switching output: PNP normally open (500 mA max)

The process connection is an M8 connection made of 316 SS. An accessory option, model A-283, provides a 4-wire connection.

Key Product Differences

Differences between the Series VBS models are defined by their measurement and switch output ranges:

• VBS-1 is designated for applications requiring a vibration range of 0 to 25 mm/s Vrms.
• VBS-2 covers the extended range of 0 to 50 mm/s Vrms.

The series carries CE agency approval. The unit weighs 0.25 lb (0.114 kg). Per manufacturer warnings, the Series VBS is not field serviceable; if repair is needed, it should be returned with a Return Goods Authorization number.
