Supported Applications

The Series DW-USB Compact USB Data Logger allows users to monitor temperature, humidity, dew point, voltage, current, or carbon monoxide almost anywhere, then download the stored data by plugging the module directly into a PC's USB port. Its compact form factor and built-in LEDs, which indicate that an alarm has been met or the battery is low, make it well suited to portable spot checks and long-term unattended logging across a range of environments.

Because the housing can resist moisture up to IP67 when the protective cap is attached, the logger tolerates damp locations. Data is reviewed with the EasyLog USB configuration software, which is compatible with Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10. Note that the DW-USB-6 is not a suitable substitute for a domestic or industrial carbon monoxide detector or alarm.

Operating Conditions & Performance

Temperature models measure across -31 to 176°F (-35 to 80°C), and humidity models add a 0 to 100% RH range, both at a resolution of 1°F (0.5°C) and 0.5% RH. Voltage is logged across 0 to 30 VDC at 50 mVDC resolution, current across 4 to 20 mA at 0.05 mA resolution, and carbon monoxide across 0 to 1000 PPM at 0.5 PPM resolution. The external thermocouple model reads 32 to 752°F (0 to 400°C) with the supplied probe.

Memory holds 16,382 temperature readings, 16,382 each for temperature and RH, 32,764 readings for voltage, current, and thermocouple, and 32,510 for carbon monoxide, all in a stop-on-memory-full sampling mode. Sampling rate is selectable from 10 sec to 12 hr for temperature and RH models, 1 s to 12 hr for voltage, current, and thermocouple models, and 10 sec to 5 min for CO models. Programmable high and low alarms are supported.

Power comes from a 3.6 V 1/2 AA lithium metal battery, included and user-replaceable; leaving the logger plugged into a computer for an extended period will considerably lower battery life. The ABS plastic blend housing weighs 1.5 oz (43 g), carries an IP67 rating when the protective cap is attached, and complies with CE and RoHS. The unit is not field serviceable and should be returned if repair is required.

Configuration Options

Each variant differs by sensor type, measurement range, and accuracy. The DW-USB-1 is a temperature logger with ±3°F (±1.5°C) accuracy. The DW-USB-2 adds humidity and dew point at ±4°F (2°C) and ±3% RH from 20 to 80% RH, while the high-accuracy DW-USB-2-HA improves this to ±3°F (1.5 °C) and ±2% RH from 20 to 80% RH.

The DW-USB-3 logs voltage and the DW-USB-4 logs current, each to ±1%. The DW-USB-5 measures carbon monoxide across 0 to 1000 PPM at ±6% of reading, and the long-range DW-USB-5-LR covers 0 to 300 PPM at ±4% of reading. The DW-USB-6 uses an external thermocouple, supporting J-type across -202 to 1652°F (-130 to 900°C), K-type across -328 to 2372°F (-200 to 1300°C), and T-type across -328 to 662°F (-200 to 350°C), with ±2°F (1°C) accuracy for the data logger itself.

Physical configuration also varies: the DW-USB-2, DW-USB-2-HA, DW-USB-5, and DW-USB-5-LR use a vented body and clip, the DW-USB-3 ships with a black-tip terminal block cap and the DW-USB-4 a blue-tip terminal block cap, and the DW-USB-5 and DW-USB-5-LR use a red-tip CO sensor cap. LCD-equipped versions, such as the DW-USB-1-LCD, DW-USB-2-LCD, DW-USB-2-HA-LCD, and DW-USB-6-LCD, add an on-device display with a transparent cap.
