Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series TUF is a compact ultrasonic energy meter that integrates flowmeter, temperature measurement, and calculation functions into a single unit. It utilizes ultrasonic technology to measure heating and cooling energy consumption in clean, compatible liquids. Documented applications include heat metering, utilities billing, tenant billing, and monitoring of water heating or cooling systems such as radiators and fan coils. The series is designed for installation on chillers, boilers, and individual apartment piping.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series TUF operates within an ambient temperature range of 41 to 131°F (5 to 55°C) with a process temperature limit of 36 to 203°F (2 to 95°C). The device features an IP65 enclosure rating and is constructed from plastic housing materials. Wetted parts consist of Brass and 316L SS.
Performance specifications include:
- Accuracy Class: BTU: EN1434/CJ128 Class 2
- Flow Accuracy: ±(2+(0.02 Qp/Q))%
- Temperature Accuracy: ±0.1°C (±0.18°F)
- Repeatability: Flowmeter: 1%
- Pressure Rating: 232 psi (16 bar) for DN15 to DN40; 362 psi (25 bar) for >DN50
- Humidity Limit: <93%
The measurement range varies by model size, spanning from a minimum flow of 0.1 GPM (0.5 LPM) on the TUF-150 to a maximum flow of 2202 GPM (8333 LPM) on the TUF-2000.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable options across process connections, communication protocols, and power supply configurations. Models are designated by size suffixes ranging from 150 to 2000 (e.g., TUF-150-MD).
Process Connections & Sizing
The series supports multiple connection types depending on the model size:
- DN15 to DN40 Models: Threaded connections (G3/4B, G1B, G1-1/4B, G1-1/2B, G2B). Optional couplings are available for 1/2" NPT or BSPT pipe sizes.
- DN50 to DN125 Models: GB9119 flange connections (e.g., 2" DN 50 PN 16, up to 5" DN 125).
Communication & Output Signals
Selectable communication protocols include Modbus® RTU or BACnet MSTP. M-BUS is available upon request.
- Baud Rate: 38400 (BACnet MS/TP)
- Data Size: 8
- Parity: None
- Stop Bits: 1
Power Supply Options
The meter supports the following power configurations:
- Standard Models (e.g., TUF-XXX-MD): 24 VAC/VDC.
- -DC Suffix Models (e.g., TUF-XXX-XX-DC): 24 VDC only. Note: Power supply must be floating, not grounded.
- Battery Backup: A user-supplied and installed 3.6 V ER26500 lithium metal battery acts as a backup if power is lost or powers the display only (lasts up to 6 years).
Display & Indicators
The unit features an 8-digit LED display for reading temperature, flow-rate, and energy consumption values. Error messages such as "IN—CLOSE," "OU—OPEN," or "FL—OPEN" indicate sensor states or flow failures.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the Series TUF are distinguished by size (DN15 to DN125), communication protocol, and power input type. The model number guide follows the format TUF-<SIZE>-XX, where XX indicates the communication option or DC-only designation.
- Communication Suffixes: Models ending in "MD" typically denote Modbus® RTU, while those ending in "BN" indicate BACnet MSTP capability. Specific model examples include TUF-150-MD and TUF-200-BN.
- Power Suffixes: Models with the suffix "-DC" (e.g., TUF-150-XX-DC) are restricted to 24 VDC applications, whereas standard models accept 24 VAC/VDC.
The series includes specific dimensional variations for each size. For example, the TUF-150 has a length of 4-21/64 [110.00] mm and weighs 3.1 lb (1.4 kg), while the larger TUF-2000 measures 13-25/32 [350] mm in length with a weight of 141 lb (64 kg). Installation notes specify that if mounted on horizontal pipe, the meter must be oriented at least 45° from horizontal to prevent debris accumulation.
