Supported Applications
The Omega I-7520 Series consists of RS-232 to RS-485 and RS-422/RS-485 converters designed for long-distance communication using standard PC hardware. These devices convert RS-232 signals to isolated RS-422 or RS-485 signals, enabling data transmission over extended distances where standard serial cabling is insufficient.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within an ambient temperature range of -25 °C ~ +75 °C and a storage temperature range of -30 °C ~ +75 °C. Humidity ratings are specified as 10 ~ 90% RH, non-condensing. Communication speeds support ranges from 300 to 115200 bps.
Transfer distances vary by speed: the series supports a maximum of 1,200 m at 9.6 kbps and up to 400 m at 115.2 kbps when using Belden 8941 (2P twisted-pair cable) or Belden 8942 (4P twisted-pair cable). The devices feature a Self-Tuner ASIC inside, ESD protection, and provide 3000 VDC isolated voltage on either the RS-232 side or the RS-485 side depending on the model. Power consumption is rated at 1.2 W with an input voltage range of +10 VDC ~ +30 VDC (Non-isolated).
Configuration Options
The I-7520 Series offers multiple configurations to address specific interface and isolation requirements:
- Interface Support: Models include RS-485 only (I-7520, I-7520A) or combined RS-422/RS-485 support (I-7520R, I-7520AR).
- Cabling Options: Supports 2-wire cabling and 4-wire cabling configurations.
- Housing & Mounting: Units feature a plastic casing made of Fire Retardant Materials (UL94-V0 Level) with dimensions of 72 mm x 118 mm x 35 mm. Installation is via DIN-Rail mounting.
- Connections: RS-232 connectivity uses a 9-Pin Female D-Sub connector, while the serial interface (RS-422/485) utilizes a removable 10-Pin Terminal Block.
- Cover Colors: Available in standard and Gray Cover options (e.g., I-7520 G CR).
The series includes LED indicators for Power and Communication status. Accessories available include power supplies such as the GPSU06U-6 (24 VDC/0.25 A, 6 W) and DIN-KA52F (24 VDC/1.04 A, 25 W with Din-Rail Mounting), repeaters like the I-7510 CR and I-7510A CR, and cabling such as the CA-0915 (9-Pin Male-Female D-Sub Cable, 1.5 m).
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes models based on interface capability and isolation topology:
- I-7520 / I-7520A: These models provide RS-485 (I-7520) or RS-422/RS-485 (I-7520A) interfaces. The 3000 VDC isolated voltage is located on the RS-232 side.
- I-7520R / I-7520AR: These models provide RS-485 (I-7520R) or RS-422/RS-485 (I-7520AR) interfaces. The 3000 VDC isolated voltage is located on the RS-485 side.
A critical design difference exists between these groups: if power is supplied from a PLC or PC, the I-7520R/AR models should be used to maintain isolation; otherwise, using other configurations may break the isolation. Additionally, on I-7520A/I-7520AR models, RS-422 and RS-485 cannot be used simultaneously.
