Supported Applications
The Omega PRS series sensors are designed for use in Sanitary Clean-In-Place (CIP) systems. These combination thermowells and protection heads with RTD sanitary probes facilitate easy installation into Food, Dairy, and Biopharmaceutical systems.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series measures temperature using a 4-wire Pt100 Platinum RTD element meeting Class A requirements. The documented operating process temperature range is -50 to 200°C (-58 to 392°F). Accuracy specifications include ± (0.15 + 0.002t) °C per IEC-60751, with a sensor resistance of 100 Ω at 0°C.
Wetted materials consist of 316L Stainless Steel featuring a surface finish of 10 microinch or better (also referenced as 32 µin). The assembly includes a spring-loaded probe design within the thermowell to support thermal response. A standard well features a 0.5" dia. stem, stepping down for insertion lengths over 2.5", with a 0.260" bore diameter.
Configuration Options
The PRS series is configurable across multiple dimensions including fitting styles, RTD elements, protection heads, and probe lengths. The standard process connection utilizes a 1½" 16 AMP Tri-Grip™ (Tri-Clamp®) Compatible Fitting.
Standard Insertion Lengths
- 1½" insertion length with 2½" stem length
- 2½" insertion length with 4" stem length
- 4½" insertion length with 6" stem length (0.75" step to 0.5")
- 7½" insertion length with 9" stem length (0.75" step to 0.5")
- 10½" insertion length with 12" stem length (0.75" step to 0.5")
Housing and Connection Options
The series supports various protection head configurations identified by model suffix changes:
- NB9W: White polypropylene connection head with screw cap (standard)
- NB16W: White polypropylene flip-top head
- NB15: Large 316 SS head
- NB13: Medium size 316 SS head
Electrical connections are provided via a ¼ NPT conduit connection. The assembly includes four inner screws on the terminal board for sensor wiring, with outer screws available for instrument connections.
Key Product Differences
The series is ordered using the model pattern PRS-----. Standard variants feature a white polypropylene head (NB9W) and 4-wire Pt100 elements. Alternative protection heads are available by changing the suffix from “-NB9W” to “-NB16W”, “-NB15”, or “-NB13”. Additional options for element types, curves, probe lengths, fitting styles, and other configurations require consultation with sales.
