Supported Applications

The Omega XTPB and XTPR series are Class 10 Overload Manual Motor Protectors (MMPs) designed for the simple manual starting and stopping of motors. These compact units integrate a pushbutton or rotary ON/OFF manual disconnect, an adjustable bimetallic overload relay, and fixed magnetic short circuit trip capability. UL Listed under UL 508 as Manual Motor Protectors, they are intended for applications requiring motor protection with integrated switching.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within a rated operational voltage (Ue) of up to 690 Vac and supports frequencies from 40 to 60 Hz. Ambient operating temperature ranges are -25 to 40 °C (-13 to 104 °F) for enclosed installations and -25 to 55 °C (-13 to 131 °F) for open configurations, with storage temperatures from -25 to 80 °C (-13 to 176 °F). The devices feature temperature compensation per IEC/EN 60947 and VDE 0660 standards across a range of -5 to 40 (23 to 104) °C, with a residual error for T > 20°C of < 0.25 %/K.

Performance specifications include an overload release setting range of 0.6 to 1.0 x Iu and a fixed short-circuit release at 14 x Iu (± 20% tolerance). The series provides phase-failure sensitivity compliant with IEC/EN 60947-1-1 and VDE 0660 Part 102, along with single-phasing sensitivity to IEC/EN 60947-4-1. Mechanical lifespan is rated at 50,000 operations for XTPB models and 100,000 operations for XTPR models; electrical lifespan (AC-3 at 400V) matches these figures.

Configuration Options

The series is available in Frame B size (45 mm) with two operator types: pushbutton (XTPB) and rotary (XTPR). Rated uninterrupted current (Iu = Ie) ranges from 1 A to 32 A depending on the model. The XTPB models cover ratings up to 16 A, while XTPR models extend to 25 A.

Key configurable features and options include:

  • Terminal Types: Screw terminals or push-in terminals are available depending on the model configuration. Terminal capacity supports solid or flexible conductors with ferrules from 0.75–2.5 mm², or solid/stranded wire from 18 – 14 AWG.
  • Housing and Enclosure: The device enclosure is rated IP20 (Device) and IP00 (Terminals). Accessory enclosures are available for XTPB models: XTPBXENAS41 provides an N.A. surface IP41 rating, while XTPBXENAS65 offers an N.A. surface IP65 rating.
  • Mounting: Units can be snap-fit to IEC/EN 60715 top-hat (DIN) rails with a height of 7.5 or 15 mm.
  • Auxiliary Contacts and Accessories: Options include side auxiliary contacts XTPAXSA11 (1NO 1NC) and XTPAXSA12 (1NO 2NC), incoming terminals (XTPAXIT), and commoning links for multiple devices (XTPAXCLKA2, XTPAXCLKA3).

Approvals include IEC EN 60947, UL, SP, CE, CCC, RoHS, VDE 0660, CSA C 22.2 No. 14, and compliance with UL 508 Group Motor and Type E.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between the two series lies in the operator mechanism: XTPB models utilize a pushbutton interface, while XTPR models feature a rotary ON/OFF disconnect. Both share identical overload release settings relative to their rated current and short-circuit trip characteristics.

  • XTPB Series: Pushbutton manual motor protectors with Iu ratings from 1 A (XTPB001BC1) up to 16 A (XTPB016BC1). Maximum operating frequency is limited to 25 operations/hr.
  • XTPR Series: Rotary manual motor protectors available in Iu ratings from 1 A (XTPR001BC1) up to 32 A, with specific models covering ranges such as XTPR020BC1 (16 to 20 A) and XTPR025BC1 (20 to 25 A). Maximum operating frequency is rated at 40 operations/hr.

Motor switching capacity varies by voltage; for AC-3 applications up to 690V, the XTPB series supports up to 25 A and the XTPR series up to 32 A. For DC-5 applications up to 250V, both support 25 A (with three contacts in series).
