Supported Applications
The Omega UFM-DQG Series is a clamp-on ultrasonic flow meter and data logger designed for pipes ranging from 2.5 to 48 inches. It measures volumetric flow and heating/cooling energy rates in clean liquids or those with small amounts of suspended solids or gas bubbles, such as surface water or raw sewage. The device clamps onto the outside of pipes without contacting the internal liquid, offering non-invasive measurement for applications including water delivery, sewage, cooling water, water-glycol mixtures, alcohols, chemicals, and HVAC systems.
For energy metering configurations, the series supports dual clamp-on RTDs for temperature measurement. The system is engineered to operate in harsh environments with a rugged aluminum enclosure rated NEMA Type 4, IP67.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The UFM-DQG Series utilizes ultrasonic transit time flow measurement technology. Accuracy varies by pipe size and transducer type:
- Medium and Large Pipes (RZ, NZ, WZ, HZ, LZ, YZ, JZ, KZ): ± 0.5% ± 0.049 ft/s (0.015 m/s)
- Small Pipes: For 1 in. (25 mm) and larger: ±1% ± 0.03 ft/s (0.009 m/s); for 3/4 in. (19 mm) and smaller: ±1% of full scale
- Repeatability: 0.2% above 1.5 ft/s
Velocity ranges depend on pipe size and fluid conditions, supporting up to 40 ft/s for medium and large pipes and up to 20 ft/s for small pipes. The transmitter operates within an ambient temperature range of -4...140°F (-20...60°C) with a storage temperature range of -40...176°F (-40...80°C). Process temperatures vary by transducer type, ranging from -40...194°F (-40...90°C) for standard models to -40...350°F (-40...176°C) for high-temperature HZ 1 transducers. The system is rated for Pollution Degree 2 and altitudes up to 2000 m (6561 ft).
Configuration Options
The series offers a configurable envelope of transducer types, transmitter options, communication protocols, and output signals tailored to specific installation needs.
Transducers & Process Connections
- Pipe Sizes: 0.5...48 in. (12...DN1200), with standard pipe transducers covering 2.5...12 in. and large pipe transducers for 8...48 in.
- Transducer Types: Includes CA-CT fixed small pipe, UZ adjustable small pipe, NZ/RZ/JZ/KZ/WZ/HZ/LZ/YZ standard or specialized pipes (submersible, high temperature, integrated rail).
- Cable Lengths: Up to 100 ft (30 m) for small pipe transducers and up to 300 ft (90 m) for standard/large pipe transducers.
Housing & Mounting
- Enclosures: Available as a Remote System Enclosure or Panel Mount Enclosure, both constructed of painted aluminum with stainless steel fasteners and an EPDM gasket.
- Ratings: NEMA Type 4, IP67 (standard); WZ/YZ submersible transducers offer NEMA 6P/IP68 protection.
Outputs & Communication
- Analog Output: One or two isolated 0/4...20 mA outputs (16-bit, max 800 Ohms).
- Digital I/O: Includes digital input (5...30V DC), frequency output (63...10k Hz), pulse totalizer output (up to 5 kHz), and optional two dry contact outputs for alarm or flow direction.
- Protocols: Modbus RTU, BACnet MS/TP over EIA-485; Ethernet options include Modbus TCP/IP, EtherNet/IP, or BACnet/IP with webserver. Connectivity to AquaCUE/BEACON endpoints (LTE cellular) is available.
Data Logging & Configuration
- Storage: Includes an 8 GB industrial grade MicroSD card for data logging up to 8 parameters per record with selectable intervals from 1 second to 1 day. The Real Time Clock is backed by a super capacitor, retaining minimum of 32 days of data without power.
- Configuration: Via optional keypad or SoloCUE configuration software over USB (USB 2.0 mini B connector).
Key Product Differences
The UFM-DQG Series distinguishes itself through specific transducer families and transmitter configurations.
- Transducer Families: CA-CT models are fixed for small pipes (0.5...2 in.); UZ 1 offers an adjustable track system; NZ, RZ, WZ, HZ, LZ, YZ cover standard to large pipe ranges with variations for submersible service (WZ/YZ) and high temperatures up to -40...350°F (-40...176°C) (HZ). JZ/KZ models feature an integrated rail system.
- Transmitter Power: Options include 24V DC/AC (9...28V DC or 20...26 AC) and Mains AC (85...264V AC).
- Housing Form Factor: Remote System Enclosures measure 6.50 in. x 6.50 in. x 3.63 in., while Panel Mount Enclosures are shallower at 1.38 in. depth.
