Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series ADPS, EDPS, and BDPA Adjustable Differential Pressure Switches are designed for overpressure, vacuum, and differential pressure applications. The series is intended for use with air and noncombustible, compatible gases. Documented application areas include monitoring air filters, ventilators, and industrial cooling-air circuits, as well as controlling air and fire-protection flaps.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series covers a measurement range from 0.08 in w.c. (20 Pa) to 20 in w.c. (5000 Pa), with specific set point ranges defined by model number. The maximum operating pressure is rated at 40 in w.c. (10 kPa) for all pressure ranges. Process and ambient temperature limits are specified from -4 to 185°F (-20 to 85°C). Storage temperatures range from -40 to 185°F (-40 to 85°C).
Performance characteristics include a mechanical working life of over 10⁶ switching operations. The electrical rating supports Max 1.5 A res./0.4 A ind./250 VAC, 50/60 Hz with a maximum switching rate of 6 cycles/min. Approximate dead band values vary by model and set point; for example, the ADPS-08-2-N lists an approximate dead band of 0.04 (10) in w.c. at minimum set point and 0.05 (12) in w.c. at maximum set point.
Mounting Orientation
The pressure switch should be mounted vertically with pressure connections pointing downwards to drain condensation moisture. If mounted horizontally, switching values are approximately 0.08 in w.c. (20 Pa) higher. Do not mount the pressure switch in a hanging position.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable options across three model families: ADPS, EDPS, and BDPA. The Series EDPS models meet UL508 requirements and are constructed of plenum-rated plastics (UL 94 V-0). The Series BDPA Adjustable Differential Pressure Alarms offer additional features including buzzer and LED notification, with power options for battery or line operation.
Process Connections
The switches accept process connections via 5/16" (7.94 mm) outside diameter tubing or 1/4" (6.0 mm) inside diameter tubing.
Electrical Connections
- Push-on screw terminals
- M20x1.5 with cable strain relief
- Optional 1/2" NPT conduit connection (change model suffix from -2-N to -1-N)
Housing and Materials
- ADPS: Diaphragm material: Silicone; Housing material: POM; Switch body: PA 6.6; Cover: Polystyrene.
- EDPS/BDPA: Diaphragm material: Silicone; Housing material: Switch body: PA 6.6; Cover: Polystyrene (UL94 V-0 rated).
Enclosure Rating
The series carries an enclosure rating of NEMA 13 (IP54). Note that the EDPS manual also references NEMA 3, IP54.
Key Product Differences
Differences between model families are defined by construction materials and specific features. The ADPS series utilizes a POM housing material for the switch body, whereas the EDPS and BDPA utilize PA 6.6 with Polystyrene covers rated UL94 V-0.
Model Numbering
The model number guide follows the format PREFIX--. For example, ADPS-08-2-N or EDPS-08-1-N. The suffix indicates connection type: -1-N denotes an optional 1/2" NPT conduit connection, while -2-N denotes M20 cable gland connections.
Accessories
The series supports several accessories including:
- A-288: "L" type metal mounting bracket with screws
- A-289: "S" type metal mounting bracket with screws
- A-480: Plastic static pressure tip
- A-481: Installer kit (includes 2 plastic static pressure tips and 7' (2.1 m) of PVC tubing)
- A-489: 4" straight static pressure tip with flange
