Supported Applications
The ACI Adjustable Current Switch series (models A/ACS2, A/ACSX2, A/ASCS2, A/ASCS2-L, and A/ASCSX2) is designed for AC current monitoring applications. These switches detect equipment failure, support preventative maintenance, monitor status, and track electrical load conditions. Documented use cases include identifying overload or underload conditions, broken belts, locked rotors, fans, pumps, compressors, motors, ovens, industrial equipment, lighting status, local alarms, and determining equipment run time for load trending.
The series supports logging contact closures to building management systems or PLCs. Solid-core versions are suitable for new installations or OEM applications, while split-core versions facilitate retrofit applications or service technician use on insulated conductors only.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The switches monitor AC Current with a maximum voltage of 600 VAC and an operating frequency range of 40 to 1 kHz. Sensor power is induced from the monitored conductor, eliminating external excitation requirements. The isolation voltage rating is 2200 VAC.
- Operating Temperature: 5 to 104°F (-15 to 40°C)
- Humidity Range: 0 to 95%, non-condensing
- Hysteresis: Typically 10% of the trip point
- Contact Resistance: < 10 Ohms (tripped) | > 1 Meg Ohm (Open)
- Status Contact Rating: 0.2A @ 200 VAC/VDC
Response time varies by model and current level, ranging from values such as 60 mS for the A/ASCS2-L at 20 Amps to 400 mS for the same model at 0.60 Amps. Specific response times are documented in a table on page 2 of the data sheet.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable options across core style, contact type, and measurement ranges to address specific installation needs:
- Core Style: Available in Solid-Core (A/ACS2, A/ACSX2) or Split-Core versions (A/ASCS2, A/ASCSX2, A/ASCS2-L). The aperture size is 0.75" (19.05 mm).
- Contact Type: Normally-Open "N/O" or Normally-Closed "N/C" configurations.
- Ampereage Ranges: Models support ranges including 0 to 250A, with adjustable trip points such as 0.5 to 220A (Solid-Core), 1.5 to 220A (Split-Core A/ASCS2/A/ASCSX2), and 0.6 to 180A (A/ASCS2-L).
- Mounting: Features a patented 35 mm Din Rail mounting foot (U.S. Patent No. 7,416,421). Minimum mounting distance is 1" (2.6 cm) between the current switch and relays, contactors, or transformers.
- Housing Material: PC/ABS (Polycarbonate/ABS Blend) with a UL94-V0 flammability rating.
Electrical connections utilize a 2 Position Screw Terminal Block that is not polarity sensitive. The terminal block accepts 16 to 22 AWG copper wires only, with a torque rating of 4.43 to 5.31 in-lbs (0.5 to 0.6 Nm). Visual status indication includes a Red LED when monitored current is above the trip point and a Blue LED when below.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes models by core construction, contact logic, and specific ampereage ranges:
