Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series A-169/A-170 Instrumentation Siphons protect pressure instruments in high temperature applications. Water held in the 180° coil prevents steam from contacting the instrument, making them suitable for use with pressure gages and instrumentation where the process media temperature exceeds the rating of the instrument.
These siphons are designed to withstand high temperatures, pressures, or resistance to corrosion while handling compatible liquids and gases. The male NPT connection allows for easy installation and secure attachment in industrial piping systems.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series supports service with compatible liquids and gases using wetted materials of Carbon steel or 316 SS, depending on the model selected. Pressure limits vary by material schedule and temperature as defined in the Model Chart:
- A-170 (316 SS SCH 80): 2307 psi @ 200°F
- A-170-A (316 SS SCH 40): 500 psi @ 680°F
- A-170-B (316 SS SCH 40): 500 psi @ 680°F
Process connections are available as Male NPT in either 1/4" or 1/2" sizes. Weights for the series range from 8 oz (226.8g) for 1/4" NPT models to 25.6 oz (725.75 g) for 1/2" NPT models.
Configuration Options
The Series A-170 offers configurable options across material grades, pressure ratings, and connection sizes:
- Materials: Carbon steel or 316 SS (depending on model)
- Schedules: SCH 80 for Model A-170; SCH 40 for Models A-170-A and A-170-B
- Process Connections: Male NPT, available in 1/4" or 1/2"
- Certifications: Model A-170 is not RoHS certified.
Key Product Differences
Differences within the series are defined by material schedule and pressure capability at specific temperatures. The base model A-170 utilizes 316 SS SCH 80 construction to achieve a higher pressure limit of 2307 psi @ 200°F with a 1/4" NPT male connection. Models A-170-A and A-170-B utilize 316 SS SCH 40, rated for 500 psi @ 680°F; Model A-170-A features a 1/4" NPT male connection while Model A-170-B uses a 1/2" NPT male connection.
