Supported Applications

The Omega CYD211, CYD218E, and CYD218S series are cryogenic digital thermometers designed for monitoring silicon diode sensors (CY670 Series) and Platinum Resistance Temperature Devices (RTDs). These instruments serve applications in liquid gas storage, cryopumps, and materials science. The series supports single-input configurations with the CYD211 model and 8-channel simultaneous input models with the CYD218E and CYD218S.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The measurement range spans from cryogenic to elevated temperatures depending on the sensor type: 1.4 to 500 K for Silicon Diodes, 30 to 800 K for 100 Ω PT sensors, and up to 1.4 to 873 K with specific Platinum RTDs (PT-111). For CY670 Series diode sensors, the range is documented as 1.4 to 475 K; for Platinum RTD elements, it extends from 1.4 to 800 K.

Accuracy specifications include Class B ±0.3°C at 0°C and electronic accuracy of 0.011 K at 4.2 K (±10 mK). Repeatability is listed as ±10 mK, with a thermal response time of approximately 2 seconds. The display resolution varies by range: 0.001° from 0 to 99.999°, 0.01° from 100 to 999.99°, and 0.1° above 1000°. Ambient operating temperature is rated at 15 to 35°C (58 to 95°F) for full accuracy, with reduced accuracy performance between 10 to 40°C (50 to 104°F).

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable input channels and output interfaces tailored to data acquisition needs. The CYD218E supports simultaneous display of up to eight inputs, accommodating combinations such as 8 RTDs, 8 CY670 diodes, or a mix of 4 RTDs and 4 CY670 sensors.

Key configurable features include:

  • Sensor Inputs: Supports Silicon Diode (CY670 Series) with 10 µA ±0.2% DC excitation, or Platinum Resistance Elements (100 Ω, 1000 Ω) with 1 mA ±0.3% excitation.
  • Data Interfaces: RS232C Serial Interface (9600 Baud), IEEE-488 (CYD218S only), and analog outputs of 0 to 10V or 4 to 20 mA (available on CYD218S).
  • Alarms & Relays: Two high/low alarms with configurable dead bands, latching/non-latching settings, and relay actuators. The system includes two relays with Normally Open (NO), Normally Closed (NC), and Common (C) contacts.
  • Data Logging: Non-volatile memory stores 1500 points or supports continuous transfer to a computer; printer support is available via RS232, IEEE-488, or analog output depending on the model.

Housing options include panel mount configurations for the CYD211 (cutout: 45 H x 92 mm W) and half-rack mounting for the CYD218 series. Accessories such as TP2111 (Single 1/4 DIN adaptor) and TP2112 (Dual 1/4 DIN adaptor) are available to facilitate installation.

Key Product Differences

The series is differentiated by channel count, interface capabilities, and physical form factor:

  • CYD211: A single-input model designed for 1/8 DIN panel mounting. It features a 5-digit LED display and supports silicon diode monitoring.
  • CYD218E: An 8-channel monitor supporting RTDs, CY670 sensors, or mixed inputs. It includes RS232 serial interface, datalogging capabilities, and printer output with simultaneous LCD displays for all eight channels.
  • CYD218S: Builds upon the CYD218E by adding IEEE-488 interface support, alarm relays, and analog outputs (0–10V or 4–20 mA).

Power requirements vary: the CYD211 includes a 100 to 250 Vac transformer with a 120 Vac power cord. The CYD218 series operates on 100, 120, 220, or 240 Vac (+5 to 10%, 50/60 Hz). A "-220" suffix option is available for the 220 Vac configuration with an included European line cord.
