Supported Applications

The Omega LDC series comprises Low Density Cartridge Heaters designed for applications requiring lower operating temperatures and watt densities. Documented uses include heat sealing, laminating, packaging, labeling, molds, food processing, refrigeration, shoe machinery, glue guns, wax pots, and heating liquids or gases.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series features a helically wound Nickel-Chrome resistance wire within an Alloy 304 stainless steel sheath. Insulation consists of Magnesium Oxide (MgO) with ceramic insulators and mica spacers. The maximum operating temperature is rated at 650°C (1200°F). Maximum watt density ranges from 3.1 to 7.0 Watt/cm² (20 to 45 Watt/in²), depending on heater size and operating temperature.

Electrical specifications include a nominal voltage of 120V or 240V AC, with maximum voltages up to 480V for larger diameters. The wattage tolerance is Plus 5%, minus 10%, while resistance tolerance is Plus 10%, minus 5%. For corrosive solutions intended for immersion heating, the source notes specific OMEGA requirements.

Configuration Options

The LDC series supports a broad range of dimensional and electrical configurations. Nominal diameters are available in 3/16, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, 15/16, 1, and 1 1/4 inch sizes (actual diameters ranging from 0.185 to 1.250 inch / 4.70 to 31.75 mm). Sheath lengths span from 82.6 mm to 609.6 mm (3¼" to 24").

Standard electrical connections utilize Type F termination with 254 mm (10") internally connected flexible lead wires featuring high-temperature insulation, UL approved for 300 or 600V service and temperature rated to 250°C (482°F). The series is offered in over 40 standard termination styles. Approvals include UL recognized and CSA certified status under UL File Number E65652 and CSA File Number 043099.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the LDC series are distinguished by sheath diameter, length, wattage, and voltage. Model numbers follow the format LDC - <Model Number> - <Voltage>, with specific examples such as LDC00417 for a 120V configuration or LDC00418 for 240V at 10" length and 1000 Watts. The series includes models configured for both 120V and 240V operation, with wattage outputs ranging from 400 to 2400 Watts depending on the specific model selection.
