Supported Applications
The Omega LDC series consists of Low Density Cartridge Heaters designed for applications requiring lower operating temperatures and watt densities. These heaters are engineered as an economical solution for OEMs consuming large quantities, offering cost-effective performance with Alloy 304 stainless steel sheaths. Documented application areas include heat sealing, laminating, packaging, labeling, molds, food processing, refrigeration, shoe machinery, glue guns, wax pots, and the heating of liquids or gases.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The LDC series features a helically wound Nickel-Chrome resistance wire with high-purity Magnesium Oxide (MgO) insulation. The Alloy 304 stainless steel sheath is oxidation resistant up to the maximum operating temperature of 650°C (1200°F). Standard performance ratings specify a Maximum Watt Density range of 3.1 to 7.0 Watt/cm² (20 to 45 Watt/in²), depending on heater size and operating temperature.
Electrical specifications vary by diameter, with maximum voltages listed as 240V for diameters up to 1/2 inch and 480V** applicable for diameters of 5/8 inch and larger. Wattage tolerance is specified as Plus 5%, minus 10% for the 3/16" diameter, while resistance tolerance is listed as Plus 10%, minus 5%. The series supports standard power supplies of 120V or 240V AC.
Configuration Options
The LDC series offers a broad envelope of configurable dimensions and termination options to meet specific installation requirements. Standard sheath lengths range from 38.1 mm (1½") to 609.6 mm (24"). Nominal diameters are available in sizes including 3/16, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, 15/16, 1, and 1 1/4 inch.
Termination configurations include Type F termination with 254 mm (10") internally connected flexible lead wires. These leads feature high-temperature insulation UL approved for 300 or 600V service and are temperature rated to 250°C (482°F). Resistance wire and lead wires are mechanically spliced using heavy wall nickel connectors.
Additional capabilities include:
- Custom Engineering: Custom Engineered/Manufactured Heaters available upon request, specifying Diameter, Length, Wattage, Voltage, Termination Types, Lead Length, Cable/Braid Length, Application Type, Operating Temperature, and Special Features.
- Termination Styles: Over 40 standard termination styles are available to meet application requirements beyond the default Type F configuration.
- Approvals: UL recognized (UL File Number E65652) and CSA certified (CSA File Number 043099). Note that for UL and/or CSA Agency Approval, specification is required when ordering.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes variants primarily by sheath diameter, length, wattage, and voltage ratings. Dimensional tolerances vary with size; for example, the 3/16" nominal diameter has a Diameter Tolerance of 0.051 mm (±0.002") and Length Tolerances of 1.59 mm (±1/16") up to 152 mm (6") long or 3.18 mm (±1/8") over 152 mm (6") long. The Camber Tolerance is specified as 0.254 mm (0.010") per foot of length.
Model numbers follow the format LDC<XXX>, such as LDC00033 or LDC00069, corresponding to specific combinations of sheath length and wattage within a given diameter. The listed model numbers in standard grids are for heaters with Type F Termination (254 mm (10") leads). End seals utilize a roll crimped style over a 304 stainless steel end disc with a mica spacer electrically insulating the heater core; this specific end seal style is not moisture proof.
