Supported Applications
The Omega PV Series Electronic Proportioning Control Valves are designed for the proportional control of fluid flow based on an electronic signal. These Electronically Controlled Proportioning Valves (ECV) accept a standard electrical input to modulate flow from fully closed to fully open in liquid and gas applications.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 49°C (32 to 120°F). Process temperatures are rated for -18 to 121°C (0 to 250°F). Maximum pressure ratings vary by valve size: the standard limit is 120 psi, while the ¾" valve is limited to 70 psi. The actuator features a DC step motor with 200 steps per revolution and 4 revolutions of travel, providing a resolution of 200:1 (0.5%) in 4-step increments. Hysteresis is eliminated by the direct connection of the stepper motor to the valve stem without gearing.
Electrical Specifications
- Power Supply: 12 to 24 Vdc @ 5 A (typical power consumption 10 W, maximum 23 W). The ¼" valve requires 2.5 A with a maximum of 38 W.
- Control Input: 4 to 20 mA control signal with 250 Ω impedance; dual external switch contact sensing via 5 Vdc signal is also supported.
Configuration Options
The PV14-Series offers a range of configurations defined by valve size, body material, and flow capacity. The rugged epoxy-coated aluminum enclosure provides NEMA 4X (IP66) protection suitable for outdoor use.
Sizes and Materials
- Valve Sizes: Available in ¼", 5/16", 3/8", and ¾" orifices with corresponding NPT fittings (½ NPT, ¾ NPT, 1 NPT).
- Body Materials: Models are offered in Brass (-B) or 316SS stainless steel (-SS). Brass models include 303 SS internal trim.
- Cv Ratings and Flow: Cv values range from 0.6 (PV14-B/SS, PV516-B/SS at 8 GPM max @ 50 psi) to 6.5 (PV34-B/SS). Maximum flow capacities extend up to 45 GPM for the ¾" models.
Control and Configuration Options
The electronics support programmable control modes including direct or reverse action, full or split range operation, high or low range selection (e.g., 12-20 mA vs. 4-12 mA), and fail-safe conditions configured to open or close on loss of signal.
Connections
- Electrical: Connection is via a ½ NPT conduit with 16" 22 AWG pigtail leads. The U12Y100 accessory power supply includes a 3-pin DIN connector with 1.8 m (6') of 3-conductor 22 AWG pigtail.
- Process: Screwed pipe connections are used; unions are recommended for easy removal during maintenance.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the series differ primarily by orifice size and body material, which dictate flow capacity (Cv) and maximum pressure ratings. The model number follows the format PV-, where XX indicates the valve size code (e.g., 14 for ¼", 516 for 5/16") and B or SS denotes Brass or Stainless Steel construction.
Manual control is available across all models via a screwdriver slot in the motor shaft. The U12Y100 unregulated power supply (12 Vdc, 3 A) serves as an accessory option for systems requiring external AC-to-DC conversion from 120 Vac or 240 Vac sources.
