Supported Applications

The Omega OSXL-EX series consists of compact, handheld infrared thermal imaging cameras designed for detecting energy loss, moisture intrusion, and overheating in electrical and mechanical equipment. These devices provide simultaneous storage of IR, visual, and MSX® (Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging) images to support field diagnostics.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The OSXL-EX series operates across a temperature range of -20 to 250°C (-4 to 482°F). Measurement accuracy is specified as ±2% or 2°C. The cameras feature an uncooled microbolometer detector and offer thermal sensitivity values ranging from <0.15°C down to <0.06°C depending on the model resolution.

Physical durability includes a drop rating of 2 m (6.6'). Power is supplied by a swappable Li-ion battery providing approximately 4 hours of operation time. The unit dimensions are 244 x 95 x 140 mm (9.6 x 3.74 x 5.5") with a weight of 0.58 kg (1.27 lb).

Configuration Options

The series is available in four primary models: OSXL-E4, OSXL-E5, OSXL-E6, and OSXL-E8. Each model supports MSX® Thermal Image Enhancement to overlay visible light details onto the thermal image.

  • IR Resolution: Options include 80 x 60 (OSXL-E4), 120 x 90 (OSXL-E5), 160 x 120 (OSXL-E6), and 320 x 240 (OSXL-E8).
  • Display: Models feature a 76 mm (3.0") color LCD with resolutions up to 320 x 240.
  • Image Modes: Capabilities include IR image, visual image, MSX, thumbnail gallery, and picture-in-picture on higher-resolution models.
  • Measurement Modes: Configurations range from a single spot (center) mode to area box (min/max), isotherm (above/below), and alarm functions with blue below or red above set temperature indicators.
  • Emissivity Correction: Variable adjustment available from 0.1 to 1.0 on select models.
  • Data Storage: Internal memory stores at least 500 sets of images in standard JPEG format with included 14-bit measurement data.

NIST traceable calibration certificates are available as an option for all models (e.g., OSXL-E4-NIST). Accessories include a pouch case, replacement battery, external and car chargers, power supplies with EU/UK/US/AU plugs, USB cables, and hard transport cases.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between models is the IR resolution and associated feature set. The OSXL-E4 provides 80 x 60 pixel resolution with basic image modes. The OSXL-E5 increases resolution to 120 x 90 pixels.

Higher-tier models, the OSXL-E6 (160 x 120) and OSXL-E8 (320 x 240), introduce advanced features including picture-in-picture display, isotherm measurement modes with color-coded alarms, variable emissivity correction from 0.1 to 1.0, and selectable color palettes (Iron, rainbow, gray). The OSXL-E6 also specifies a focus-free optical system and a field of view of 45° x 34°. All models share the same temperature range, accuracy specification, physical dimensions, weight, and battery life.
