Supported Applications

The Omega BB704 series is a portable, rugged, bench-top blackbody calibration source designed to test and calibrate non-contact infrared temperature instruments, such as infrared pyrometers. The device provides a heated cavity with a target of known temperature and emissivity for verifying instrument accuracy.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The BB704 series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F). The blackbody cavity operating temperature ranges from 100 to 400°C (212 to 752°F), with a standard setpoint capability between 100 to 398°C (212 to 750°F). Performance specifications include an accuracy of ±0.8°C (±1.4°F) and stability of ±0.1°C (±0.2°F).

The unit features a target plate diameter of 102 mm (4") with a cavity emissivity of 0.95, suitable for calibrating infrared pyrometers with a spot size diameter of 102 mm (4") or smaller. The warm-up time is specified as 20 minutes from ambient to 398°C (750°F). Internal sensing elements utilize an RTD.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable power supply options and standard output interfaces:

  • Power Supply: Available in 115 Vac 50/60 Hz or 230 Vac 50/60 Hz configurations, consuming 425 W.
  • Outputs: Standard RS-232 serial port output and a built-in RTD reference probe output are included.
  • Housing & Dimensions: The unit measures 410 x 190 x 264 mm (16.12 x 7.50 x 10.38") with a weight of 7.27 kg (16 lb).
  • Included Accessories: Each unit comes complete with an operator's manual, power cord, reference probe connector, and NIST-traceable calibration certificate.

Key Product Differences

The BB704 series is distinguished by voltage configuration in the model numbering guide. The standard BB704 denotes a 115 Vac blackbody calibration source, while the BB704-230VAC specifies a 230 Vac unit. Both variants cover the same temperature range of 100 to 398°C (212 to 750°F) and share identical performance specifications.
